That is a valid concern. There is controversy about the clinical significance of short episodes of asymptomatic atrial fibrillation. They probably increase the risk of stroke by some percentage, but the question is does apixaban reduction of risk of stroke in these patients exceed the risk of significant bleeds hasn’t been answered. The devil is in the details. As continuous heart rate monitoring and easy ecg recordings have gotten cheaper and more accessible, we probably could figure this question out with a big number study. Anticoagulants are expensive and have risk, and strokes and head bleeds are devastating.

But then as often happens in research we wait 2 weeks and the thinking goes in a different direction. While the near constant monitoring may be a reassuring thought for some, it up's the anxiety factor for others causing treatment for yet another disorder. The neverending circle 😊
