Evenity and belly fat?

Posted by sandrac @sandrac, Jul 14, 2024

Has anyone noticed an increase in belly fat with Evenity? It is not a listed side effect. I stay up about 3-4 pounds over my normal weight and it seems to have settled in my belly. My diet has not changed, except now I am trying to cut back on some things, but it does not seem to be helping. I am coming up on round 6 in three weeks. Otherwise, I have had no issues. Thanks in advance!

Thank you all for sharing. I'll have to say that I would look forward to my 84 year-old hubby gaining some weight, and especially appetite -- because after 6 compression fractures with severe kyphosis, and having pulmonary fibrosis -- he has lost so much weight and has had little appetite for about a year and a half. He's also unable to exercise, as any exertion not only hurts his back, but leaves him more short of breath than usual -- even with oxygen. So it's been a real struggle to be able feed him enough to keep him from losing any more weight. Yesterday was his first of 12 monthly Evenity injections, so I'm hopeful.

I am on Tymlos about 8 Months and belly fat happens with that drug too.

Doctor denies it’s From the med but like you, I know that it’s an effect.
I haven’t gained pounds - just inches .
Hoping it will go away after treatment.
Please tell me that fosomax ( which might be my next drug ) won’t add more belly fat ?

Yes 15 months of Tymlos and I can say with certainty that I’ve gained about an inch and added belly weight. Off it now due to heart palpitations. Awaiting a new medication ughh. I will say though that my bone density definitely increased 🩷

Great to hear that your bone density increased from
Tymlos as desired.
I am scheduled for a dexa at the 12 month mark . I really hope it has done the job -
I’m
Guessing doctor will have me stay on it the full 18 months though unless I get serious side effects . I’m sorry about the heart palps you experienced - yikes - I’m prone to that too but haven’t noticed that happening as yet ….

Also, two to three weeks off and I’ve dropped 3 lbs without changing anything else. Health definitely more important than a few pounds but I had a feeling the weight gain was from the Tymlos.

Been off Evenity 2 months now and belly fat still there. What a fight—just glad I had bone gains!

Thank you so much for this info !
It will be a year for me on tymlos in september and dr wants to do a dexa scan then . It will be interesting to see if the tymlos is working and how much longer dr wants me on it. Like you said, some waist flab maybe i can get rid of post treatment . Strong bones worth it

Here’s my take on belly fat. Most of us with osteoporosis have lost body height (inches). If that is the case, the fat redistributes to other parts of the body, such as arms, thighs, breasts, etc. Possibly that is why we see larger bellies. I have noticed my very thin thighs are no longer so thin … so some fat must have redistributed itself there.

I'm about to take the fourth Evenity injection. After my second one, I gained 8 lbs by the time I took the next shot! But, I agree with you regarding the redistribution of fat. I lost 3 inches due to multiple spine fractures. My osteoporosis is probably due to the radiation treatments for breast cancer and my Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. So, like you, I am trying to focus on how important this treatment is to my bones and "embrace" this plumper version of myself. Thankfully, I was not overweight prior to Evenity.
I hope your treatment
had positive results.
