7mm invasive ductal carcinoma

Newly diagnosed. Extremely frightened. Surgeon says lumpectomy and possible radiation. Awaiting results for HER2. Radiation scares me. I would appreciate any thoughts

@mimzy do you have results for ER and PR? Grade? Her2 will also be important. If you are ER+ they will do an Onctotype test which will guide your treatment.

Even with a mastectomy, one out of 5 radiologists would have recommended radiation for me, but I declined. An aromatase inhibitor to block estrogen was a strong treatment for me because my ER (estrogen score) was very high as was my progesteron (PR). Despite Grade 3, high ki67% and lymphovascular invasion, I had a low Oncotype score and just did surgery and an aromatase inhibitor. I am nine years out.

Oncotype is done for ER+ and HER2- cancers. If HER2 is positive, treatment is different, and includes Herceptin, maybe another drug.

I think once you have all your testing and info, you can make a decision about radiation- and about the type of surgery you want. Aromatase inhibitors can cut risk in half if you are ER+ and the Oncotype will estimate your risk.

I'm 77 had 2 small lumps,2 pos. nodes ER+ onco 19. had lumpectomy and chose not to radiate, but take Anastrozole. I'm only 10 months out, but your comments are encouraging in that my choice was not unreasonable. I hope I can say one day,"I'm 9 yrs. out" but If I'm gone I don't think it will be from BC. Thanks

Don’t buy anything expensive for a bit. I did a front close sport bra for a bit and I still like them. Got a couple at Walmart that were comfortable, I also got one fitted at Dillards-nothing is going to be comfortable for a bit. I’m 2 years out and some days I want nothing on my scar lines.

Just diagnosed with IDC stage 2 and I am ER+ PR+ HER2-neg. Genetics labs have been sent. My lumpectomy surgery is scheduled for a week from Tuesday and I will need radiation and hormone blocking meds. This site has been helpful in answering my questions. I am a large woman with small breasts. This is not my primary concern, but does anyone have experience finding a good post-op bra?

@cdk I agree with @celestebradham You may not want to spend too much money. I didn’t like front closing bras, don’t like the extra thickness of fabric/velcro or hooks there. I bought sports bras with regular closures and turned the hook to the front to open/close. I bought them big enough so it wasn’t difficult to get my arms under the strap - wouldn’t work with a drain, though.

I’ve gone through 7 different type bras, from nothing-bras to sports bars, foam cups, and underwire - also fitted at Dillards. Surprisingly the foam cup was the most uncomfortable. It had “stays” on the sides (little strips of plastic put in to add stability). These sat right on the edge of the end of the inframammary scars. I cut them out. But the cup was thicker at the bottom (support) that hurt the surgical/radiation area by pushing on it.

At 2 1/2 years out, I went on a mission to pick out 2 bra types that worked and get rid of the others. I’m keeping the Dillards fit underwire for fancy, and thin fabric clothes. I ordered a bra from BustedTank.com that is now my preferred comfort & fit bra. They customized it for me, using details I sent in an email to them. Perfect!

I went to Essential Woman boutique in Spokane WA. They fitted me for a breast form and lumphadema bras. The bras are my favorites. Website is essentialwomanboutique.com.
