Has anyone else experienced issues with a newly implanted pain pump?
I just want this pain pump out of me!! I've only had it about 3 1/2 weeks and it has been a nightmare. It is pinching a nerve somewhere, and my lower back hurts now. I now have a serious pain in my hip and leg on the side the pump is on when I bend over and stand back up. The pump itself is placed under the skin on my left side near the area of my kidney. I know my doctor doesn't want to, but I want it out of me!! I want to be the one in control of my body! Not to mention I told him 3 times not to use Morphine because of the way my body reacts to it. I came out of surgery and found out although he agreed to use Dilaudid he put morphine in the pump instead. So on top of all the newly added pain and restrictions I'm itching like crazy and nauseous all the time. Can I just insist he remove it? I know he will refuse to help me if he removes it. He has been my pain specialist for several years since my back surgery in 2012.

You're luckier than I am. My pain Doc does not show any compassion, empathy, or much of anything else. My pleas to investigate other avenues, or reach out to colleagues goes up and into the stratosphere. If this guy ever called me, I would likely faint on the spot,
Hello34,
Where do you live? my Pain Management DR. , Patients see him from other states he's that good. He's in NJ.
Thanks for reaching out. I am actually seeing a new pain doc this coming Tuesday in Newark DE. I saw him back in June. He has a couple of possible therapies to try. He has offices in DE, PA, and NJ. Possibly the same guy you see. His name is Slevin.
I have a Medtronic Pain Pump with Methadone. I believe it makes my nerves burn in my legs and feet more. Had Fentanyl before that. I am very curious what you have in your pump. We seem to have a lot of the same back work. I would appreciate your help. Thank you. I have wanted to go up to the Mayo Clinic years ago and they turned me down. I don’t get it. Live in Watertown Wi. Please tell me what is working for you. I need help.
Hi- Archie here—your meds in pump sounds like going from champagne to alcohol free beer. Are you saying that you had Fentanyl in the pump and they changed that to Methadone? Or… were you taking oral or patch Fentanyl and a pump was installed and filled with Methadone? It’s not my place to comment on anybody’s drug use or choice, but this sounds very much like an attempt to desensitize you to Fentanyl— it may be part of a process to titrate the correct dose of meds or even an attempt to find the right med. I have had a pump since 2007 and the med is Dilaudid. It’s been a gift from God and I have never had to take oral opioids. HAVE A FACE TO FACE WITH YOUR DOCTOR— you deserve a clear and concise explanation of the treatment plan and what to expect down the road. Keep a journal of your activities, pain levels and any oral meds you take. Good luck. Best, Archie
I've read too many horror stories to try it
