Hello! What do people use for severe hemmorrhoids? I can usually manage with prep H but this is not doing the trick. Help please!

Nupercainal is over the counter and has lidocaine in it. You said severe hemorrhoids. May be time to see a doctor as you may have thrombosed hemorrhoids which requires a simple surgery.

@jeannieflores
Have you seen a proctologist? You may need surgery if they are really bad.

Internal or external? I’ve heard only external are painful….idk, but I had one thrombosed hemorrhoid several years ago! Omg! It’s beyond excruciating. Difficult to describe. I tried everything. Trouble is that after a certain point, nothing really helps….maybe ice cubes. I suffered several days and eventually got to Urgent Care to have it burst before doctor could incise it, which he was going to do. After it burst, it drained blood and healed over next week. If I have another, I’d see doctor to incise it without delay. All that waiting was needless suffering, imo.

Thank you all. I’m out of state so trying to baby this along until I get home. I purchased an ointment with lidocaine to see if that helps. I took a bath which really felt good. I’m cutting out a lot of caffeine, substituting with hot water, trying to sleep with my legs elevated…anything to make it home to see my doc. I so appreciate all of you. BTW, they are external.

Good luck. My doctor says to avoid constipation. That is what caused mine. So I focus on avoiding that. It’s been a struggle.,

I hope you find a treatment that works for you.

More importantly, I hope you can find strategies that will help you not having hemorrhoids, or avoiding that those you have get worse.

* As @celia16 has mentioned, avoiding constipation is key. Adjusting one's diet so that one's faeces are like type 4 or 5 on the Bristol stool chart, so they can slide out easily.
* Avoiding straining and not sitting on the toilet more than 7 to 10 minutes.
* Using a squatty potty for a fisiologically correct position on the toilet (choose the right height for the height of your toilet)
* Using a good bidet, not just to clean up, but as a sort of enema.
* Pelvic floor therapy can teach one how to relax the sphincter and pelvic floor muscles so as not to have to strain.
