Propofol for bone marrow biopsy

You have some big decisions coming up regarding your BMT. It’s very important that you feel a connection with the BMT doctor and team. They will be integral figures in your life through all phases of the transplant and recovery.
There will also be frequent trips to the clinic for follow-ups so convenience is also a consideration.

There’s a growing membership of BMT recipients in the forum. Thanks so much for your wisdom and experience. I start outpatient chemo this week. 14 days of Venclexta pill daily then 2 weeks off. And just 5 days tues thru sat per month of SubQ Vidaza with rest the other 3 weeks.
In process of switching my care to Local Vassar/DYson Cancer center which is 15 min from my house/work and great team.
Also, in process of changing my BMT team from Mt. Sinai (NY City) to Memorial Sloan Kettering also NYC - same travel (3 hrs each way) and MSKCC has such a great reputation.
Now seems like the time to make my care changes!.

Got a great local Doc handling Pain meds and Nausea/vomiting (Palliative) for which I have many allergies)compazine,Reglan, Droperidol, Tigan...ugh) ( Zofran in-effective) Phenergan suppositories works and IV Benadryl when inpatient for the strong Histamine H1 effect has been a lifesaver. My original Valley/NJ Oncologist was unwillingto refer to Palliative so I finally self-referred/forced the issue and SO glad I did. I am also a retired Paramedic (my 1st career) Now work in Adv. Manfacturing Health & Safety and they have been great and very supportive.

Good morning, @skibum486. MSKCC has a great reputation for BMTs and aftercare, so you’ll be in good hands there. Yup, now’s the time to make the changes to your preferred clinic. With your Paramedic background and ‘spidey-sense’ for what feels right in the medical world, that gut feeling will serve you well. I had a similar ‘feel’ for my options when selecting my BMT team. It’s so important to get the right team, not only for the initial stages of transplant and recovery, but for followup care.

I cringed reading about your allergies to the anti-nausea meds! I can’t even! Sublingual Zofran was my go-to most often but there were 3 more in my arsenal. The good news is, generally as blood numbers start to rise after engraftment, many of those lovely side effects start to diminish. So I wish you well going forward and hopefully those meds will just be a passing memory!
