Is anyone taking a particular enzyme which allows your system to break down carbs and sugars?

I'd like to start a discussion on fructose malabsorption, how to control it, what to eat and not eat, etc. . Is anybody interested?

I am very interested in anything I can learn about fructose malabsorption. I have a severe issue with it as well as being gluten and dairy intolerant and eat basically nothing. This has been an issue for 50 years. How can I be sure to see all the recent posts on the subject?

I am gluten, dairy, and fructose intolerant. I am to the point that I am living on chicken, steak, hamburger, salmon, cod, pork chops, tiny amounts of broccoli, zucchini, or green beans, lettuce, avocado, instant coffee. That is what I eat 3 times a day every day. My body tolerates nothing else. Does anyone know of any medication to help in this situation? I have severe stomach pain, belching diarrhea if I eat anything else. Do you know of any help for me?

Have you been to see a gastroenterologist? I have this too and was diagnosed with SIBO (small intestin bacteria overgrowth). I was given an RX for Xifaxan for two weeks and felt do much better. Now I can have those things but I try to only have in moderation. When/if it comes back, I start the medication again. It won't cure you but it will help a lot if you are in distress.

Yes, I have seen multiple gastro doctors to no avail; they don't know how to deal with my issues. I have been tested for bacteria but was negative. I am glad you are finding relief.

Thank you for your reply. I will check on the Ensure. So far I have not found Ensure that I am able to use. I am surprised you can eat applesauce as apples are high in fructose. Sometimes there is no explanation why one food that is low in fructose will bother a person and one that is high might be ok. Very puzzling.

Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect, @celiacpt. Feeling like you can basically eat nothing sounds really hard. So much of life surrounds food.

What I'd suggest for you to do is go to the home page for this Mayo Clinic Connect support group:

-Digestive Health Support Group https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/digestive-gastrointestinal-problems/

If you put in "fructose malabsorption" or any other keyword you'd like, you can search all of the discussions and comments in this group on that topic.

You mentioned you eat basically nothing. What do you eat on any given day?

Thanks for your suggestions. I have joined the group and have also searched under fructose malabsorption and read posts. Unfortunately, I am VERY intolerant and even the slight amount of any of gluten, dairy, fructose has dire effects. So, a lot of the suggestions, will not benefit me. Daily menu: breakfast, hamburger patty, sauteed canned spinach, coffee; lunch, chicken thighs, veggies; dinner, protein, veggie, lettuce with avocado. Meat: hamburger, pork chops, salmon, cod, chicken breasts, chicken thighs, steak; veggies: broccoli, brussel sprouts, green beans, zucchini (very small portions of each). That's it--nothing more. Thank you for the prayers and your support. I am doing research today on this site to see if there is anything that will be helpful. If I could find enzymes that would work it would be great. You would think that the medical field would be more helpful with all this but they don't seem to be educated.

Ohh you are so right!! I talked to my PCP and told her "eating is dangerous" and she replied" they're trying to kill us"...I agreed!! I went to a nutritionist for about 5 months and did the "leaky gut" thing..ohhh.. phases 1-5 and found out there was a phase SIX that lasted about 2-3 months ..so I quit..that was 2 years ago.. and I still don't know what to eat!! Isn't this pathetic?? I'm going to check into enzymes.. haven't heard about those..please keep me posted if you find anything out.. and I'll keep standing in faith that our prayers are answered..God wants u well!!
