Anyone experience pain with Y90 treatment?

Posted by camper56 @camper56, Apr 15, 2024

My husband had the Y 90 treatment 2 1/2 weeks ago. He had nausea the first week then it went away. Then started the really sharp pain in his liver area. It usually starts in the afternoon and does not go away without taking an oxycontin. He is having a followup CT scan today. Anyone else experienced the pain for more than a few days?

I am having Y90 this coming week. Angiogram on Monday and first y90 on Thursday. My understanding is after a couple weeks will have y90 to the other half of liver. I have melanoma lesions that spread from ocular melanoma. Would love to see any comments relating to this.

My husband had Y90 placed in his liver on 9/11/2024 . He is very sensitive to medications and we actually discovered he is allergic to must chemo meds, so when they said “ most people feel like they have the flu for a couple of days and feel a bit off for about 2 weeks “ I in my head planned for 3-4 weeks of him not feeling well as he’s also a very slow metabolizer of medication . I was so very pleased it was about 4 days of laying low and then he felt good and it just got better from there. It also works! Hope this is helpful and best of luck Cat

@mandi123, checking in. How did the angiogram and first y90 treatment go? How are you doing?

@4fs, has your husband completed treatment at the moment? How is he doing? How are you doing?

He is doing ok , the Y90 did shrink the tumor and now he’s taking something fairly new ( fruquintinib) as he is actually allergic to chemo ( long nightmare of a story) and it has actually gotten smaller. He takes the pill 1xper day for 21 days then 7 off . He’s definitely more easily tired while taking them .
Thank you for asking
I have some very good friends that check in often on me as we has an adult son with a TBI to care for now also .
Hope it works

I'm a 76 year old woman with numerous lesions both lobes. 2 1/2 weeks ago, I had Y90. Still experiencing intermittent upset digestive problems, much abdominal pressure and occasional sharp pain. I've been told all is to be expected. Fatigue is prominent. However, the nausea still persists. BUT given the size of of one of the lesions and the fact they were able to disconnect it from my stomach, I'm so grateful for this option! Praying for you and all dealing with this disease.

lindaldoston,
So sorry to hear you are experiencing so much pain after your procedure. I don't have a lot of knowledge in this area. But as someone who was experienced a cancer diagnosis in my family, I know how difficult it can be. Supporting each other and praying for a good outcome is something we can all do. Sending healing thoughts your way. Wishing you peace and good health.
