Thank you I’m not giving advice and am searching for an alternative to antibiotics! I just found out that I have SIBO and am trying to find a protocol to help treat it!

@marksmom, sometimes it can be confusing to tell who is replying to whom. You might find this article in the Help Center helpful:

Here's what Mayo Clinic says about treatment for SIBO https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/small-intestinal-bacterial-overgrowth/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20370172

For many people antibiotics work well. But for some, like you, they are not helpful. As you mentioned earlier, antibiotics wipe out most intestinal bacteria, both normal and abnormal. As a result, antibiotics can cause some of the very problems they're trying to cure, including diarrhea.

See the link above about nutritional support such as dealing with underlying possible vitamin definicies and lactose-free diets.

Yes, I was responding to cheyne who was insisting that antibiotics are the only way to kill SIBO. I'm so sorry that you are dealing with this! There are several different herbal antimicrobial combinations that have shown to be effective in treating SIBO and it mostly depends on which form of SIBO you have: hydrogen, methane or hydrogen sulfide. I have been in a few SIBO support groups on Facebook that are actually where I began learning everything I know about SIBO, oftentimes more knowledge than my doctor at the time. There is a lot of information there being shared by people who are also going through it. Recently I downloaded Reddit because as I was googling newer information in regards to SIBO I found that a lot of things I was looking into were being discussed in a SIBO thread there. I highly recommend joining those two platforms and then doing further clarification and research on your own. I will say that over the years I've been following, it seems that functional medicine doctors have the best track record of successful treatment. There are literally countless combinations of supplements that are helpful and some work for some people but not for others. It's kind of a trial and error situation. The number one doctor in the country in terms of SIBO research is Dr Mark Pimentel at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles. There are also countless books. The book I started with, in order to gain an understanding of SIBO years ago, was The SIBO Solution. Not sure if it's still relevant in terms of treatment but it definitely gives a pretty clear outline of getting to understand how SIBO works. The gut biome is very much an evolving subject that leads to regular updates in diagnosis and treatment. I hope you can find an herbal protocol that helps you! 🙏
