Does anyone experience dizziness after GEM/DOCE?

Posted by bethcamp @bethcamp, Apr 27 10:04am

After my first treatment with gemcitabine and docetaxel, I only had a headache the following day. After the second treatment, I got the headache a little earlier, but took Excedrine, and that took care of it. However the day after the treatment I got dizziness that has persisted. I have not received an answer from the doctor's office since I sent a message on Friday. Perhaps I will hear something Monday, but I am just wondering if this is a normal side effect to have several days of light dizziness. I did check for danger signs that would indicate heart or brain issues. I don't have any of those! Just lightheaded for 3 days and counting.

I just completed 1 year of gem/doc treatments. I did experience dizziness and fatigue. It was intermittent and it would come on quickly. I had problems focusing on details. It was frustrating. At times the light headed prevented me from driving. I hope that your symptoms subside. Dealing with cancer and treatments can be different for each person. I’m praying for you as you walk this path.

Hi @bethcamp, I hope you saw the helpful reply from @deb2024. I was wondering if you are still experiencing headaches and dizziness with treatment gemcitabine and docetaxel. How are you doing?

I am still lightheaded but I found the probable cause low hemoglobin in and hematocrit
I was told to increase iron in my diet and take iron supplements.
I was concerned about the side effects of iron supplements so I'm trying prenatal vitamins

I wrote a long report just now. Again, I apologize for not getting back to this group to see your supportive inquiry.

Thank you for your reply! I only had dizziness after one of the treatments, thank goodness. My doctor never did respond to my MyChart inquiry and the nurse had nothing helpful since she had not heard of dizziness with other patients.

The fatigue I had was significant and lasted longer after each treatment, until it was just happening all the time. I am done with the initial 6 week treatment, and I feel like I am getting better gradually, but definitely better.

Thank you for your response. My lightheadedness went away, so hopefully it wasn't a sign of anything more than just a side effect. I hope yours is getting better or is gone by now.
