Why do people wanna live so long
I am 65 years old, female and suffer from numerous medical conditions. I am to the point where I just wanna stop all this. I have Psoriatic Arthritis, a small Hiatal Hernia, bi-lateral kidney stones, Scoliosis, 3 compression fractures of my spine, have to use a cane or a walker to be able to walk, I just am miserable, my left foot is numb, a long with my hands. I never thought I'd be this way at this age. My Mom lived to be 94 and my Dad 92. I can't even fathom living that long, I hope I don't have to. Doctor's just push pills at you and don't wanna do anything constructive for you so why would I want to live a long life like this ? I was a very active, young for my age person. I'm just a shell of what I used to be.

I'm a bit younger than you but sometimes feel the same way, but 75 seems more reasonable than 65. There is an interesting article in The Atlantic that makes this argument called "Why I Hope to Die at 75." (https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2014/10/why-i-hope-to-die-at-75/379329/).
I don't have the mobility issues you have but do have some likely permanent limitations from cancer treatment. I am cynical of doctors after my experience. Most of them follow a script for all patients regardless of individual needs. However, it is still possible to find a doctor that I call a "diamond" who treats you like a unique person vs. just another cog on the assembly line. I have one. He believes me, listens to me, and does things that are in my best interest. It makes a HUGE difference. You need to find a doctor like that who can truly help you. It may take seeing 3 or 4 doctors before you find one.
For me, for now, I want to continue living because it's spring and it's beautiful outside, I want to keep writing music even if no one will ever hear it but me, and I do volunteer work that helps others a lot. Can you do something like swimming or just being in water to help with your pain? I'm just a random guy on the internet so don't know much about you beyond what you said but I do think you can find a doctor who will help you vs. just pushing pills and sending you away.
I’m sorry about all your illness, pills usually don’t treat the cause just the symptoms, have you by any chance consulted with a holistic doctor? You may use a holistic approach in conjunction with your western doctor, changing your diet may have a beneficial impact on your well bean a Jolistic approach will help you with that too since Holistic medicine uses the whole person concept

I am so sorry that you are living with so much pain. Do you have children or family? I need to tell you that you may not realize that your post might be helpful to someone else. I do not think we know what posting or being involved in groups with others that share some of our feelings and thoughts may do to possibly help another person. I want to offer you some hope and let you know that you might be able to help someone else. There are all kinds of groups that meet via Zoom. I do not have the types of health issues that you have, but I do have health issues and I am not the same person I was 3 years ago. I wake up everyday and think, okay, all I need to do is today. Tomorrow is not promised. Please hang in there.
I understand what you are saying. I think that dealing with chronic pain totally impacts your feelings about the future. I have some that I’m dealing with and when I feel great, which is often, I feel optimistic about my future. The pain periods alter that. I see what my parents are experiencing in their 80’s and their QOL is very low. I hope to avoid it.
Soon pain will be no more, if you need encouragement read Revelation 21:4.❤️
I’m so sorry for how it’s all going for you. I have to say, I’d probably be feeling the same. The Psoriatic Arthritis is probably driving your other issues, that’s autoimmune, right? So much is being advanced in the world of immunology. I wish there were something to help you. Nature has a comprehensive list of treatments if you like reading that type of stuff.

I’m guessing, though, that slowing the progress of PsA might be their goal, not curative.
Because you put this on “just wanna talk” I’ll add to my conversation that I’d consider maxing out the next 3 years on high doses of NSAIDS and anti-inflammatories to have the best next years that I could. Yep, they say high doses of those drugs aren’t good for us - well, hello, low doses of the drugs are doing much good either. You may end up feeling like you do now, but a few better years might be worth it.
One last comment, Mayo Clinic has a specialty service for scoliosis. The link is a mile long so I won’t post it, but it can be found with a search.
What treatment have you had for your psoriatic arthritis?
I'm in chronic foot pain in both feet due to botched up surgeries. Plus all the gut pain from ulcerative colitis. No kids or family support but God still wants us here for some reason. Going to nursing home to visit people helps me. And the warmth of Spring. And going to chapel to pray. Hang in there with me !
I've had Prednisone, methotrexate, a ton of different Biologics, Humira, Skyrizi, Simponi Aria, Rinvoque,Remicade and so many others the one that was working was Remicade but I developed antibodies to it and couldn't take it anymore and the others were mainly itching and stomach issues so couldn't take those either, I've had infusions, pills, physical therapy which made me worse than ever. I'm a hopeless mess, nothing seems to help and now I'm trying Tremfya. Nothing so far but 2nd dose is in a few days. I'm already itching so who knows.
Do you ever feel like God has turned his back on you, I do. I spent most of my life in church and I've prayed and prayed but nothing happens. Sometimes I feel like he hates me. I've been having surgeries since I was 4 years old. I too suffer from stomach issues so I know what you must feel like, not fun at all I hope that you find something that will help you, have you tried lasers for your feet ? They can help with pain and numbness in a lot of cases. They do have a ton of meds for Colitis now too, some even put people in remission from the disease. Thank you so much for caring enough to reply, I truly appreciate it. Best wishes for a better tomorrow for us both !!!!
