Interesting indeed. So scary to affects the heart! They found a thickening on my lung which they investigated also. Some nodules on my lung, “likely benign!” Likely?
So, now what for you? I’m still waiting with more questions than answers. My T score is 3.7, after 3 years on alendronate without improvement-ugh
.... possible side effects. I had none and great gains. It is not to replace this drug after completing the of course of 12 but rather sequence in a drug that will preserve the gains. Good time to discuss with your endocrinologist what she/he believes will be the best sequence of drugs for the long haul and why. Make sure you get the rationale for the sequencing and then do your own research. Good luck.
I'm not sure what's next for me. I'm 73 and in very good health other than my auto immune condition (prednisone). I have never broken a bone. My calcium levels are good and I walk and lift weights some. Honestly I'm willing to let it go and continue with my healthy life style. These drugs are too much like Russian roulette. The woman from the infusion center had a good analogy. "chances are low you'll get hit by a bus but you're not standing in the road waiting for it to happen."
3 years without improvement?!?! Keep asking questions. Remember you're in control. Don't get talked into something your gut says NO. My gut is telling me NO.
@dmshope Thank you for sharing. I wish you the best in your healing journey! My Dr has recommended Tymlos, and I am trying to do as much research as I can. Would you be willing to share why you moved away from it?
Thank you for input
Sorry for late reply - You need to have good doc support and also educate yourself so that you and your doctors are a team. I recommend reading 'Great BOnes' by Dr Keith McCOrmick. This is an excellent book with a hopeful tone. It is comprehensive and covers bone health, bone turnover markers and the various causes of OP and needed support to regain health, and covers medications, diet and excersie. . Dont hestiate - just get it and read it.
Fear does not help. Once you feel you have some control. and educate yourself then you can focus on solutions. There are side effects to drugs - dental issues are a concern so keep up with good dental care/ oral health and whatever is needed to aim to reduce risk.
My expereince with actonel was unusual. I am very sentitive and very respsnive to medications. Before I started actonel, I prepared my digestive system with herbs to protect the mucus lining becasue this is a common side effect. My stomach was fine, but Actonel gave me 'acute phase reaction' that is normally seen with the more powerful bisphosphantes ( reclast) I had a terrific sinus infections, sinus inflammation, eye irration, swollen glands for a week. Then dry moth and pervasive abdominal itching all around my midsection. I took Actonel for a short time becsues I needed to take something after tymlos to stablize- and Actonel did what it needed to do reduce the Osteoclast activity. So it worked, but it was not a medication that I tolerated well. We are each different and our reactions are different depending on our constitution and vulnerabilities. Sending psotive energy for your healing path and for you to find the support you need. Blessinss
Thank you for the postive energy. and sending postive energy for you to educate yourself as best you can. I recommend the book 'Great Bones' by McCormick - excellent referecne and hopeful! Try to find out the cause of your OP - and that will help your healing.
I took the full course of 2 years of tymlos . MY understadning is tymlos usually is recommeded for 18-24 months. I should have stopped at the 18 month mark as I have a cortical bone thinning problem in my feet. Tymlos and forteo ( both PTH) work primarily on trabecular bone and can cause in some instances, cortical bone loss.
I had good gains in spine ( having alot of trabecular bone) on TYmlos but negligible in hip and nothing in forearm. My feet actually got weaker on tymlos but that is due to my particular situation. I took short course of Actonel to stablize after tymlos and now have moved on the Evenity because my P1NP was very very low and I need more bone buildnign/anabolic support. Evenity has some possitve effects on cortical bone.
Good health to you!!
Thank you for your reply. I'm so sorry for your experience and hope you're doing well. You went through so much. I've done alot of research and most of the stats scare me. My dr feels eventity is the only solution for me to build bone at this point. Reclast sounds horrific as well. Fosamax is in the class of drugs but not as strong. I do have good oral hygiene and am worried about the jaw decay and stroke. I appreciate your reply and will buy that book. I wish you the best. God Bless
Build a postive mind set as best you can. I dont know your situation - or the severity of what is going on, but educate yourself and build a team of health support that really listens to you. Have confidnece and stand up for yourself. God bless
Thank you - have been on numerous osteoporosis drugs -hasn’t MC Ade big difference yet
