Evenity Side Effects

When I read the Cardiac concerns with this med, Evenity, I set up appt with my Cardiologist. I have family history. My EKG was weird. I am wearing a heart monitor and have been scheduled an echocardiogram. My Cardiologist called the infusion center sayin I am not a candidate for this medication. Weird that I'm relieved to have this bad appt with my cardiologist. I was getting so much pressure to start this medication!

So far, my understanding about this drug, aside from its side effects, is a certain course of shots for this drug. Then another to replace it?

Interesting indeed. So scary to affects the heart! They found a thickening on my lung which they investigated also. Some nodules on my lung, “likely benign!” Likely?
So, now what for you? I’m still waiting with more questions than answers. My T score is 3.7, after 3 years on alendronate without improvement-ugh

Dear Group. I had to be on meds due to severity of my bone degenration. I have never taken drugs but in this case it was necesaary and a God send.. I was on tymlos with various serious side effects to manage but I did learn to manage them. I was actonel short term and that had serious side effect but it did what it needed to do, so I am thankful. I am now on Evenity taking shots in the abdomin. Minor injection site issues and minor muscle/joint pain 7 days after dose. and I pray that Evenity helps to heal my feet bones. We are all different. One med is easy for one person/ hard for another. Please do not say these meds are bad.. Rather - they may not have worked for you for various reasons. or you may not have support to learn to manage the side effects. Many doc so not have the education to help up with side effects and that needs to be improved We need support in this forum to help each other. I send positive energy for your healing journey

Disappointed that you did not receive the gains you had hoped for. Yikes! Pricey, too. Guess that our bodies all react differently. Unfortunately, there is no “one size fits all” in medicine. We can just do the best that we can to improve our bone health. Quite a journey for all of us.

Thank you for your reply. I am trying to stay positive, but I don't have support, not even with my doctor. I am going to try the second set of Eventity and fingers crossed this is better over time. But I understand that once on a osteo med, have to be on it forever. I fear the jaw decay, that is something that is quite devastating and dental procedures are something 60 plus will need as we age. You mentioned you were on Actonel short term, but had side effects. May I ask what side effects? Thank you and best to you as well.

@dmshope Thank you for sharing. I wish you the best in your healing journey! My Dr has recommended Tymlos, and I am trying to do as much research as I can. Would you be willing to share why you moved away from it?

Sorry for late reply - You need to have good doc support and also educate yourself so that you and your doctors are a team. I recommend reading 'Great BOnes' by Dr Keith McCOrmick. This is an excellent book with a hopeful tone. It is comprehensive and covers bone health, bone turnover markers and the various causes of OP and needed support to regain health, and covers medications, diet and excersie. . Dont hestiate - just get it and read it.
Fear does not help. Once you feel you have some control. and educate yourself then you can focus on solutions. There are side effects to drugs - dental issues are a concern so keep up with good dental care/ oral health and whatever is needed to aim to reduce risk.
My expereince with actonel was unusual. I am very sentitive and very respsnive to medications. Before I started actonel, I prepared my digestive system with herbs to protect the mucus lining becasue this is a common side effect. My stomach was fine, but Actonel gave me 'acute phase reaction' that is normally seen with the more powerful bisphosphantes ( reclast) I had a terrific sinus infections, sinus inflammation, eye irration, swollen glands for a week. Then dry moth and pervasive abdominal itching all around my midsection. I took Actonel for a short time becsues I needed to take something after tymlos to stablize- and Actonel did what it needed to do reduce the Osteoclast activity. So it worked, but it was not a medication that I tolerated well. We are each different and our reactions are different depending on our constitution and vulnerabilities.
