My fiance had his first ever grand mal seizure in 4/17. It happened at 4am while he was in the bathroom getting for work. He fell and hit his head, nose and mouth on our bathroom table (wood) he convulsed pretty long and violently. His nose was pretty banged up and bruised and he broke about 6-7 top teeth. He had a retainer and his retainer was hanging from his mouth with his teeth. He had to have 8 extractions. Supposedly if you break or lose teeth during medical injury, it can be billed and covered by medical due to it being from a seizure that’s what we are trying currently because dental work for denture or implants is quoted at 8k for everything. He is currently on Keppra

I have had Gran Mal's and have empathy for him. Not to reference your fiance, but this is an example about what the public needs to be educated. If public awareness would be widespread, this kind of seizure and subsequent damage that one experiences may help to generate more research and cure funding. I wish both of you the best.

My empathy for your fiance. I hope he recovers well. I visit another support group and participants complain while sharing experiences. This is what I like about our Mayo group; simply experiences and questions seeking help...and others willing to give it. So, when I see people complain, they should read about what your fiance and others have experienced. Not a gran mal, but I personally had a seizure while walking into a vacation cabin (3 steps) after a jog. Worse damage in 25 years. Lip swollen big, severe bruising around nose and eyes, cut face, arms scraped badly, you know the story. Went to a restaurant that evening and even had another person thank me for my service. Damaged so badly, she thought I'd returned from Afghanistan. Note: not complaing. I wish the general public know what we experience. Again, I wish your fiance well.
