WM and MMR vaccine

Posted by weissmntc @weissmntc, 3 days ago

I was diagnosed with WM in 2023 and had 6 months of B/R in 2024. Numbers look good and have continued to improve. I feel great. My childhood medical records indicate I had first measles vaccine in 1963 and second in 1977. At my appointment this week with PCP I asked about my immunity following treatment and she ordered a blood test. Results show “no immunity”. She recommended I get one booster (she has no other patients with WM). I called my Hema/onc Dr (also not a WM specialist) and she also told me I was fine to get the MMR. I have read lots of other patient comments in another WM group whose doctors say “no” since it’s a live virus and I could develop measles due to my suppressed immune system. For now I’m holding off. I’m 69 y.o. Thoughts?

My hemotologisr/ oncologist said no live vaccines and not be be near anyone newly vaccinated. He is an expert in WM…. But I am not a clinician😏

@weissmntc It is generally thought that people with immunocompromised systems should not receive any live vaccines. This includes measles. https://www.cancer.gov/publications/dictionaries/cancer-terms/def/live-virus-vaccine

And why it’s so important for everyone else who can get immunized should! I was fortunate ( I guess) that I got all 3 diseases as a child (MMR) and still have active immunity at 66.

Check with an I.D. Dr or immunologist.
