Pardon my tough love, however, I suggest that you be strong and actually discuss things with your doctor until you know what is going on and what your treatment plan is. Tell her all your symptoms. Ask her to explain exactly what treatment you have had, and what she recommends as the next step. Be honest with how you feel. Then you decide what you want to do. You and your doctor agree on a plan of action. Take a note pad and write questions you want to ask. Ask for a print out of the doctor’s notes of your visit so you have something to refer to at home. Keep a little file of all the doctor’s notes of your visits, and all your test results for your reference. The doctors’ notes should describe the present state of your illness, the medication you’re taking, her impression of your condition, her recommendations, and her instructions to you. It’s important you keep up with what’s going on. This is expected. There are no stupid questions, only a person who is interested and curious about the medical world. Doctors and nurses usually are happy to explain things. You are the one in charge of what happens to you. All this is expected and the usual normal routine. Don’t be shy. Doctors and nurses go through this every day with their patients. I am not a doctor but I have been going through some serious medical issues, long hospital stays and several surgeries the last few years and speak from my experience. Welcome to the club. You are not alone. We are all right here with you going through aging, and wrestling with our assorted illnesses. Stay optimistic. Be brave and inquisitive. And keep your sense of humor.

I needed to hear that. I am also too soft with my doctors. I need to start getting more aggressive and demanding. Most doctors that I have seen are fast talkers and seem to be in a rush. I am very easy going and I leave the office with so many questions. Thanks for the pep talk.
