I want to fly 5 hours to see my family for a couple of weeks. Do you think I could/should do it?

I prefer to travel by train to visit my daughter several states away. I find it less disorienting for my whole body. There are usually nice people and my daughter meets me at the other end.
You can also ask the Ticket taker to alert you to your stop. I registered as disabled when I bought my ticket and they helped us.

I love the train! at the age of 83 I took it alone overnight in a roomette from Portland OR to Paso Robles, CA. a few months ago.
The room attendants will look out for you.

Am a gerontologist. If one has some dementia keeping stress minimal while traveling will help. Some dementias that have symptoms which are increased during stress or worry. Use whatever stress reducing tactics you can, such as a guide from gate to gate in a wheelchair. Be independent for as long as possible by adapting your habits to reduce any stressors. Stressors are also different and very individual. One person may be stressed by being alone for 10 hours a day, while another person finds that stress-less. One person may moderate stress by having birds and feeders in the yard..and it may reduce dementia symptoms. Depends on the type of dementia and personality, medications, etc, also.

If it’s an international flight I would give that more thought. I am sitting here in Barcelona after Avery physically uncomfortable flight of about 7 hrs, not counting customs, security, waiting, restaurant food etc. It has been exhausting.
