Does anyone know what the PET scan results mean?

Posted by ladylennie @ladylennie, 1 day ago

I was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma 12/23. I had surgery 2/24, upper left lobe lobectomy and lower left lobe wedge. There were 2 malignant nodules in LUL and aah in LLL. I was staged 2b, but there is some confusion about whether or not the 2 nodules were primaries or intrapulmonary metastasis. In any case, I had 4 rounds of pematrexed/carboplatin with no side effects. I've been on Keytruda since 7/25, every 6 weeks. My last pet-ct said stable except there was a "new minimally FDG avid atelectasis with ground glass in inferior right middle lobe anteriorly." The impression was that it is inflammatory, but that's what was said for 4 years about the 2 that became malignant. Does anyone have any idea what this means? I don't see the Dr. for over 2 weeks.

They probably will do further testing or perhaps wait and see what happens, I know you’re worried and I sincerely understand how it feels, I have gone through a similar experience. It’s quite possible that the nodule is inflamed based on what they are seeing and their experience with this, I’m very confident that they will be careful with your situation because you have a history with cancer, also you have every right to get another opinion if you need to be reassured. I have always had doubts when going through this because I’m a chronic worrier so looking for answers is second nature for me and I feel very strongly about taking responsibility for my own health, good health.

Thank you. I spoke to the nurse today and they think it may be pneumotits. Fortunately I have a scheduled appointment with my pulmonologist tomorrow. We agreed I should ask his opinion about taking a short course of methylprednisone and /or have a bronchoscopy.

I just saw the pulmonologist. He put me on a 6 day course of prednisone. He also recommended my treatment be as scheduled in 2 weeks followed by another scan.

@ladylennie, That was fortunate that you had a pulmonology appointment right away. I'm glad they are keeping an eye on this. Listen to your body, speak up if you notice any changes with your breathing. Hoping for a speedy resolution!
