Any suggestions for going lactose free?

I've always loved milk but within the past six years have become lactose intolerant.
I can eat ice cream and cheese but very small portions. My gut gives me grief with sour cream, yogurt and cream cheese. So I can't eat yogurt for the good probiotics!! (I loved my greek)

Recently I bought some almond milk with less sugar. (Tried to find organic but couldn't)
It was great, I had a small cup with breakfast two mornings in a row. Then my stomach turned on me.

Don't know if I'll ever be able to stomach even milk alternatives. Used to drink soy a long time ago but that eventually got to me.
Haven't tried others but I know a few are high in Fodmaps.
Has anybody had luck with any milk alternative, specifically?
I deal with ibs, gerd and motility issues.

Have you tried Lactose Free products?

@januaryjane
Depending on where you’re located: my wife is lactose intolerant so we drink DariGold Fit, this is ultra filtered, way less sugar and nearly double the protein than regular milk. Our other milk of choice is Fairlife; this is by the Coca Cola company and is like DariGold but has 1 less gram of protein and is more money per volume.
Fairlife is available everywhere (I think?) whereas DariGold is not.
If you like chocolate milk, I doubt you will find a better one than Fairlife and DariGold runs a close second.
Both choices are certainly more $ than regular milk but we never have any waste and the expiration date is WAY longer on these two products than the regular.
Both are available in whole and 2%.

1% milk has been my good fortune

I used rice milk for many years until I became allergic to it also. Have you ever tried coconut milk yogurt? It’s high in fat, but it’s supposed to be a healthy fat. I ate it for years, but now my stomach is worse and it bothers me. It’s delicious!

I have IBS-D and also dairy intolerant. I can have milk products if baked in something but can't drink milk or eat yogurt. I have been drinking soy milk for years and before that rice milk. I also drink oat milk which to me tastes better then almond milk. Maybe you should have a work up with a gastro. I also have to go along with the FodMap diet. Ever since I was a kid I knew certain fruits and dairy products bothered my gut.

Have you tried Soy milk?

I love oatmilk cashew milk coconut milk. All of these work well on my crazy stomach. Good luck!!

January Jane: I can relate on more issues than one. Eventually I came to realize that I can only drink organic and ultra pasteurized milk after learning how to make homemade yogurt. Unfortunately, after having done a 'hair analysis' I realized that my body wasn't absorbing the probiotics that I was introducing into my body after all. (I suffer from BAM) SO, what I am doing now to get my body to, hopefully, absorb the nutrients, is taking the probiotics in pill form. Eventually, after starting a new multi-vitamin regimen, I'm going to be introducing soy milk. I've just learned recently that it contains phytoestrogens which will really help me. They mimic estrogen in our bodies. I do recall you cannot go that route. I'm praying I can. I did try almond milk and my body did NOT like it. Hopefully it won't reject soymilk. Best of luck to you.

I have tried them all but my go-to is Forager cashew milk. The fewest ingredients & no gums etc. I buy at Whole Foods and Sprouts.
