I am a 47-year-old female with a sudden onset of pulsatile tinnitus in my right ear only. I woke up one day in August 2024 and it was just there and hasn't gone away since. I saw an ENT and had a hearing test, MRI and CT scan, all of which came back normal. All labs are normal other than my vitamin D was a bit low, I am now on a supplement. I do take a low dose of metoprolol but had been on it for years before the PT started. I also only take about 12.5 mg 2x per day of that.

My PT is in rhythm with my heartbeat. I don't notice it so much during the day when I am busy and distracted but when I have to wear my headset at work it is loud and it is most noticeable at night when laying down to sleep. Oddly enough I have also had bouts of vertigo periodically throughout my adult life and have had an MRI and CT scan for those, no known cause for those either but when a bout of vertigo hits it eventually goes away. The longest bout I had was 5 (horrible) days. I also get ocular migraines.

I don't know if the vertigo, PT and ocular migraines are all connected or not, but no doctor has ever been able to give me a diagnosis. I most recently tried a 5-day course of cyclobenzaprine to see if that would help but sadly no change. I will check out the Whooshers site and I am glad I found this board. It is really discouraging living with these odd symptoms. I'm about to start seeing a chiropractor and maybe an acupuncturist too because I just don't know what else to do. Maybe I need to balance my chakras? :/

@moonmamma, it is so frustrating to search and search and not come up with a diagnosis. I wouldn't be surprised if your symptoms are all migraine related. My sister just got a diagnosis of vestibular migraines for her vertigo. She stopped one of her medications and hasn't had an episode since. Acupuncture is a good resource if you can find a reliable practitioner nearby. I would hesitate on the chiropractor for a neck issue though. I never knew about the frequency of strokes post neck manipulations until a 45 years old friend had it happen. The research surprised me and makes me cautious about considering that.

I also have pulsating tinnitus and can hear my heartbeat. My Dr recommended CT scan with contrast. I am allergic to contrast. Does anyone know of testing for pulsating tinnitus that does not involve contrast die?
