One year 10 months later from knee replacement. Burning knee with cons

July 2023 right knee replacement. I have been suffering with chronic pain ever since. Surgeon would say wait a year, nothing. Had everything possible done. MRI's, X-Rays, Steroid/Lidocane injestions, ice, heat, pain mgt,. massages, Tens electrode. It has stopped my life. I was very active. Worked out, biked, yoga. Nearly impossible to do Physical therapy which causes more intense pain afterwards. Anyone suffering like this? I've tried everything.

It's been 5 months since TKR and intense pain sitting and getting up from a chair or toilet. I also cannot go up and down stairs without pain. Surgeon said X-rays look fine and need to wait a year before mri or ct scan. Is this a fact?

I have had both knees replaced the first 9 months ago and the second 5 months ago and I'm struggling with every step also. Like you doctor says I'm doing great.. Really don't understand how he comes to that conclusion when I am telling him how limited my life has become. Rehab done up to 3 times a week steroid injections, and nerve ablution. The pain is accompanied by a feeling of extreme heaviness in my legs like I've been dragging a 50lb lead ball chained to both legs, and they both swell within the first 200 steps a day. I understand your frustration and am searching for something to give me hope. Best wishes to you on your journey.

Yes, they will have you wait for at least a year. Hopefully, you will see improvement. I didn't.

5 months still early on ….. I know probably sick of hearing because you are living it but takes time…..stairs are the hardest to conquer, so I am not surprised they are difficult…I gather your flexion numbers are low ….towel slides will help , hangin knee off edge of bed. just keep up with your therapy it does get better ….they are right won’t show anything , even after a year dr are reluctant to do mri or scan , I had tkr manipulation, year later new dr revision … three years later right back where I started pain stiffiness … I am one of those people that develops to much scar tissue… so there is nothing Dr can do for me .., best thing he could have told me was no surgery or procedure that will make this better … now I focus on pain management with laser and PEMF mat …. Good luck in your journey but right now just do the foot work and have faith it will get better

This sounds all too familiar. Surgeons don't give all info up front as the percentage that have issues after TKR. 20 to 25 % have issues. I am 18 months post TKR , only now beginning to get better after getting tired of surgeons ( I've seen 3) telling me everything look perfect. I went back to my original ortho doctor in sports medicine. Recently he did scope on knee removing scar tissue and corrected fat pad impingement caused by the TKR. It's now been 5 weeks pain is much better and strength is improving by the day.......my advise .....hold the surgeons feet to the fire, most really don't want to mess with you if have issues.....unless something shows on xrays they don't know and may not care how severe your pain.

I bought a raised toilet seat with arms from Amazon and it helped a lot with sitting on the toilet and getting up. I assume you are going up stairs one foot at a time which helped me. This is a hard recovery. Keep doing all you can. I don’t know of you need to wait a year for
more testing. Maybe a second opinion?

Thank you. I did buy the toilet seat which has helped tremendously. Steps are awful and I have a great deal of pain getting up and down from a chair. I had a second opinion with X-rays and the implant looks good. I've been referred to a pain management fix to see if nerve, tendon or ligament were damaged during surgery. PT therapist said I should not have this much pain 5 months post TKR.

Thank you.
I had a 2nd opinion. Nothing is wrong with the replacement yet, no one can determine why I have chronic knee pain.
I will keep trying to recover from this. Just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced pain nearly two years later.

Thank you so much for your input. This has been a nightmare. I have gone to an Orthopedic sports doctor, Orthopedic surgeons and Neurosurgeons thinking it was nerves from my spine. It's been absolutely terrible. I am going to revisit it with the intent as you mentioned about removing scar tissue & correctly fat pad impingement. That's the first time I have heard that. Thank you so much for the info!
