I had HOLEP 3 years ago, very happy with the results. My prostate wasn’t causing high PSA scores, it was growing up into my b,adder which if left unchecked, could have caused urine to back up into my kidneys causing additional problems. I had a little incontinence right after the procedure, but it cleared up after about 5 weeks. I don’t have any problems with it today. I do take care to try and make sure all urine is vacated from the penis before walking away from the bathroom. And yes, I still get up 1-2 times a night to urinate. In light of what could have been the result had I chosen a different procedure, I don’t mind getting up to satisfy the urge.

I am now nearly 5 months post HOLEP. Just diagnosed with my 4th UTI post surgery. Never had a UTI prior to surgery. Urologist seems to think I am not voiding. I have an appointment Monday to check it out. My incontinence is now 95% gone. Tiny leaks every once in a while. It has been a tough 5 months. Now I have a referral to see a nephrologist. BUN was 38 2 days ago. Here we go again.

3 months post holep. I have recovery guilt reading all the different effects that it has on other men.
I had no underlying health issues, no pre op damage from years of same. Only one section became a ball valve and completely cut off my ability to urinate. Due to age (51) and current good health , I recovered already. I’m back to where I left off with only memories of my previous life of 6 bathroom visits every night. Full bladder 24/7/365
