← Return to Whole house water filtration system to prevent MAC & NTM

I had a very interesting consultation that I think might actually work to stop NTM bacteria.
There is a whole house system called TipaTech. It's been around for many years in Europe, and is relatively new in the USA.
TipaTech is different to other systems in that it starves the pipes of oxygen. NTM are aerobic bacteria and they need oxygen to thrive - I guess that's why they like our lungs!
In addition they recommended UV Filtering which supposedly kills off any bacteria such as NTM. And then still a "no-smosis" type reverse osmosis at the sink that has a filtration capacity of 0.007 microns.
All in all, it sounds good, but its not like I can test it to see if there are NTM in my water. And it comes with a pretty big price tag.
I'm wondering if bottled water is the way to go but there seems to be so much controversy on that. I have no idea what to do!

I felt the same after my consultation. What’s the right thing to do? These systems are very expensive when you include the ongoing costs of replacement filters and regular antibacterial cleaning of the reverse osmosis storage container. Then the fact that it is only under the sink and not whole home ie showers. The European system sounds interesting, I will read about that and yes I believe I’ve read about UV sterilisation. I haven’t chosen to install anything atm I am still using bottled water. If I am away and can’t boil it I just take it from the bottle otherwise at home a quick boil from the kettle should be enough. I’m not boiling for 5 mins, my take on it only.
Sometimes I’m not sold on the idea of my water being the problem. I think your air conditioners both house and car and holiday places ie motels can all cause you to breathe in mycobacteria. The air, the soil. Reflux, the list goes on. If you are susceptible to it, it will find you. Personally I have 2 places I think I got it from. One was showering and brushing teeth on the road in an area where non potable water was the only option. Secondly I stayed in a very old motel. I had a bad infection at the time and it was 45c temp. Aircon was used day and night. I couldn’t stand the smell or feel of what was coming through that unit. I insisted it be turned off at night and left the room whenever husband needed it to be on. It was after that I was sick quite a bit. Diagnosed much later with MAC. Sorry about the long story back to the point, will changing one thing help???? My decision to take short showers, keep cleaning and drying out my shower head, using the larger hole head. I take it off, I spray glen20 into the pipe and head which forces left over water to come out and I leave it overnight to dry out completely.
Hot water system is on 55c. Boil bottled water for all drinking requirements. If that’s not enough so be it. The fact that NTM are everywhere makes it hard!
I’m on the Big 3 now. After 2 months on drugs first sputum was negative in the first instance not sure about the growth after 12 weeks, still waiting to hear. My take also, maybe they shouldn’t wait so long to treat. They watched for 5 years before treating and of course it kept breeding.
Time will tell if what I believe is correct! When I find out if it is completely eradicated or will it return? I wish you lots of luck and hope in finding your solution and one you will be happy with.
