Panic Attack?
Hello,
I recently, last handful of months have not felt well on and off. Adrenaline burst, blood pressure sometimes going up, heart beating fast, feeling light headed.
Went to doctor. She checked my heart rate, blood pressure, listened to things, said they were all normal, then asked about stress.
I shared that I had some heavy stresses. She immediately wrote off my complaints telling me to make sure I am eating correctly, work on controlling your stress, no need to rerun tests.
I left feeling doubtful and still worried. I called back and asked if we could rerun tests from January for my peace of mind. The answer was no, see someone for your stress and maybe you aren't getting enough sleep, how about a referral to a sleep study?
Long story to ask my questions...does panic attacks just start out of the blue?
Is there recommendations from anyone on how to stop it immediately?
It hits and then it escalates as I start to worry am I having a medical emergency.
I have been trying to breathe deeply and focus on something else, but it isn't being very effective.
Suggestions would be welcomed.
I needed to sign out of work today because of it.

Yes, this sounds like a panic attack and can appear out of the blue it seem, however there are probably factors triggering it. When I have experience panic attacks I was usually either worried and/or stressed. Escalated heart rate, my chest feels heavy, my hands get clammy and I feel immense fear.
Years ago, I started therapy and we worked on breathing and grounding myself; feeling my breathing and my bodies weight did help some. She also suggested trying to focus on something else, although that didn't really help me.
I recently started having panic attacks again and my doctor prescribed clonazepam as needed to get me through and I was put back on Fluoxetine & mirtazapine. I am no longer having the panic or taking the clonazepam and feeling much better.

I've had panic Attacks before I was diagnosed a 100 mg of zoloft. And that's the only thing I found that helps.I spent about 5 years looking for help for panic. Attacks and zoloft is the only thing that helped me.
I had a panic attack for the first time after the age of 30. I've been anxious for a long as I can remember.
I went through heart tests and several results were abnormal. After a heart catheterization it was determined my heart is fine. Over the years, anxiety has shown up in different ways: panic attacks, shingles breakouts, unexplained pain and even extreme fatigue. I am getting good at challenging my symptoms to see if my brain and body are conspiring to cause them.
I've just begun taking Lexapro and after a few weeks have been able to reduce my dependence on Alprazolam. As time goes on, future medication changes may be necessary.
