Why don’t anxiety meds work for me?
In Sept. 2024 out of nowhere I developed extreme anxiety. Went to primary care doctor and was prescribed Effexor (which I had successfully taken previously). This time it didn’t provide any help. Dr. then prescribed Lexapro (which didn’t help) and then Celexa (which didn’t help). By this time, I lost 45 pounds by not being able to eat and constant diarrhea. Dr. then told me to find another practitioner as there was nothing more she could do for me. Since then I have seen 4 PNP and none of their prescribed meds have helped. What do I do?

I have checked out this facility. It is very upscale and it seems like there are more “leisure” activities than treatment. It costs approximately $50,000. I don’t have that kind of money nor could I borrow it. They don’t take Medicare and that is the only insurance I have.
That is a very big number. I just knew they were in Arizona. You mentioned that you were going to require admission.
I wish I had any other suggestions, but I really do not know any options other than the Hospital for an admission.
I believe you had mentioned that is not really an effective choice for your condition.
Would it be possible to admit to The Hospital with a focus on a Neurological workup?
I apologize that I do not have any other ideas.

Thank you for your help. I really do appreciate it. I can’t go to any hospital facility as all the tests I had done at the beginning of April in the ER came back normal. They ran the complete battery of blood work, an ekg and monitored my blood pressure for 5 hours. They also reviewed my brain MRI. There would be no reason to admit me. They will not admit for behavioral issues.
Again, thank you.
Claudia
Have you been able to get any relief from the Valium that was prescribed by your Doctor?
What is the next step for any type of admittance you mentioned earlier? Where does one go for an acute issue with behavior health?
I had a cardio version last week and was in sinus rhythm for just under 4 days. During that time, I was able to get some sleep and feel a bit better. Back in AFIB now and the symptoms are back with the dizziness and shortness of breath. Of course , the Anxiety is still present.
My hope is that you get better day by day. Believe me, I know that it is a long process. Just know that we are thinking about and praying for you.
@jschwing
John,
What is a cardio version?
I tried to reach the psychiatrist I recently saw and asked if he could reinstate me as a patient. Other than that, I don’t know what to do. The behavioral hospitals here are just holding cells. You don’t get any treatment other than being doled out the pills you are already prescribed which usually are ineffective.
The Cardio Version is a procedure where they shock the heart to obtain a normal rhythm. It worked; but only for three days or so before going back into AFIB.
I hope you can get reinstated with the psychiatrist and develop a plan for an effective treatment.
It’s so hard for you my prayers are with you I only wish I had an answer for you I’m going through the same and just keep praying that I can get through another day I know it’s not great help but just look at it as one day or second or minute at a time because when severe depression hits and anxiety basically we can’t do more then that anyway please god you get some relief

Thank you for your message. I have told my family what is happening to me after keeping it from all of them except one sister. I have no hope for improvement. It has been going on so long. I can’t eliminate the bad thoughts from my head that I caused all this by going off the Venlafaxine improperly. I have ruined and shortened my husband’s life as well.
You should have the Genomind test for find out if you have the MTHFR gene mutation, this may be causing your meds not to work. I would definitely check it out. Best of luck
Have you tried to go to just a therapist? Sometimes there is trauma that we do not know about that causes these thoughts and even health issues. I have been in therapy for 5 years now. I have also been sober for 7 years and then I got Long COVID and have been battling the symptoms for 3 years now. Therapy is helping figure out who I am and helping me change my thoughts as they are usually self defeating. I also attend AA. There are other 12 step groups that might help and they can be done via Zoom. I do not know what your life has been like, but I too have been on many different anti-depressants over the years. Sometimes emotions can make us sick too. If you can find a good therapist, it is worth a shot and it is someone outside of you family. Try to stay in the present moment also. Remember, the past is gone and the future is not here yet. Now is all any of us has.
