Proton beam vs IMRT for intraductal carcinoma of the prostate
Was told by specialist at Mayo in.my case intraductal carcinoma..proton beam was not recommended..said go with imrt..35 rounds..they offer both..wondering why..thought it had less side effects. ..prostate is removed..

Thank you very much Bill for the link , yes, I found it I think about 2 weeks ago. It is 2024 one and it seems that finally IDC-P came onto researchers radar and is now being investigated . Unfortunately not much concrete data yet nor there are special protocols for it.
PC is tricky as it is and with "wild card" of IDC-P one can only put faith AND weight onto the will of higher power, it seems ...

2 ReactionsCost of proton is about twice the cost of IMRT perhaps its an insurance issue? It sounds like your doc is on top of it. I think there are two types of IDCP which includes an element of differing types of cribriform. I had an acquaintance thru the Cancer Survivors Network ( Steve 1961 ) who only had radiation then had to go back for a post radiation salvage operation (cribriform), so hitting it now two ways makes sense.. Also Proton and IMRT are equivalent for initial definitive treatment and maybe the knowledge base is higher with IMRT on post RALP. If you haven't read this it is informative and I think relevant.

1 ReactionYes, it seems that perhaps RP followed by radiation could have better results than either one on it's own. Study from 2018 showed that RP had better results than RT alone and this newest from 2020 that RP plus radiotherapy could have even better results for IDC pattern 1. IDC-P pattern 2 might not show difference in approach.
