Severe diabetic neuropathy pain

Does anyone know of any good pain relief for severe diabetic neuropathy pain? My medicine are Cymbalta, Lyrica and Tramadol. I currently in last few weeks have been suffering from tremendously painful diabetic neuropathy pain in my hands and feet and down both front of my legs. The pain isn't at all controlled or has it been any relief at any time. I've been to the ER to the hospital recently because the pain was unbelievable to me. PLEASE ANYONE WHO CAN HELP ME I'D GREATLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP AND TIME.

Do you have your diabetes well controlled? If not, is is important to do so because that would worsen your neuropathy if not controlled.

Have you tried taking alpha Lipoic acid, Acetyl l carnitine, and magnesium supplements to help calm your neuropathy symptoms? Have you tried lidocaine or capsaicin/nerve pain creams or patches? Have you tried ice packs covered in cloth and compression socks/stockings up to thigh?

Hello @sunshinepries73, If you haven't already seen the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy website, they have a lot of helpful information for learning more about neuropathy including diabetic neuropathy that might be helpful - https://www.foundationforpn.org/therapies/. They also have a YouTube channel where they keep all of their past webinars. I thought you might find these two webinars on diabetic neuropathy helpful.

Hi, I’m Amy. I have severe stenosis and scoliosis. My neurologist prescribed Elavil 20 mg in addition to my Lyrica, Tramadol, Prednisone and Celebrex.

It does help but I’m still using it sporadically on my worst days. I can’t feel my big toes at all. How about you?

As others have said, cut out all carbohydrates and try ibuprofen. I also take alpha lipoic acid - ALA and MediNox Pro, which is L-carnitine and arginine. I use a TENS unit from Oxiline.com stimulate nerve function. Walking barefoot around the house helps with blood flow to legs and play the "air piano" for your hands. Do not hold your cell phone for extended periods. I've just learned that. Get to outdoor walking as soon as you can.
You can greatly reduce the symptoms, but it takes trying lots of things to see what helps you. EB-N5 on Amazon is a good supplement, but that's what my sister takes. I haven't ordered it yet. I also take OPC3 Isotonix made by Gatorade from Shop.com for small vessel increased blood flow. It's probably the single best supplement you can take for your body for the long haul. I've been taking it for 20 years to keep from having macular degeneration. So far, so good. My best for your being able to get help....

I have neuropathy in my lower left leg, it was caused by a lack of rotation while in Intensive Care and resting on a nerve on the side of my knee. I also have drug induced type 2 diabetes due to taking Prednisolone. Originally my whole left leg was affected, now it is more in my left foot. I am taking 100mg Of Lyrica twice daily, 1000mg of Magnesium Chelate twice daily, Bio Magnesium once in the morning. I was informed by a neurologist I may have it for the rest of my life, or it may dissipate slowly over time.

For the last 30 years I have diabetic autonimic peripheral polyneuropathy Nonacute chronic nerve pain , Cervical spondylosis & Lumbar spondylosis . I been on SSDI at the age of 45 years, I started to black out and breakout in severe sweats. I tried all the standard medication for neuropathy. All fail. why do doctor prescribe antidepressants for this condition is a waste of time. I been with my pain management doctor for 25+ years. My pain level is a 8 with breakthrough pain level of 8.5. the only meds that work for me now , is Morphine Er 30 mg @3 a day - breakthrough pain meds Morphine Ir @ 15mgs - 3 times a day. This is a drop - what really worked was Duragesic fentanyl patch 100 mcg every 48 hour... for breakthrough pain Actiq at 800MCG or Fentora @600 mcg.. this had my pain level down to 4. However people misused these meds. My pain management doctor suggested that we get around the DEA enforcing no fentanyl. When I took Fentanyl,I use patient assistance to get these meds from the manufacturer no charge. diabetic autonimic peripheral polyneuropathy caused me to have a low bradycardia, heart beat in the low 30, beating every 7 seconds , I had to get a pacemaker 2023. in 2015 I got a double spinal cord stimulator , 21 leads to the occipital areas in my head and cervical spine, one lead went through my epidural canal to the nerves in my arms and fingers. it was a 16 hour surgery. I have neuropathy Edema. ,Stage 4 Diabetic chronic Kidney disease , Small Fiber Neuropathy and motor neuropathy , A1C is 5.2 to 5.4, Blood sugar 100 to 130 for the last 7 years. I have an insulin pump. Second year using Medtronic 780 g with Guardian 4 rechargable transmitter . I also use a bead bag that you heat up in the microwave . I miss the infra ray direct heat as part of my physical therapy before the spinal cord stimulator implant
