Anyone had an ablation for lower back pain

I’ve had low back pain for 2 years. Pain injections did no good. Any good results with ablation

What does your MRI show (stenosis, degenerative disc disease, bone spurs/osteophytes, spondylitis, etc.)? What levels are your source of pain?

Did you see a neurologist for EMG/nerve conduction study of your lower limbs to narrow down if there is radiculopathy/pinched nerve and at what level to know which nerves are being affected?

Yes, ablations work, for me it lasts about 5 months.

What is it and how is it done on your lower back?

That’s good to hear. I’ll have mine on lower back in 3 days. I am hoping for relief. My lower back hurts when I am standing or walking. So that keeps me sitting and lying down a lot. It’s been going on a couple of years. If I’m on my feet for only 5-10 minutes it starts hurting really bad. Did you get another ablation when that one wore off? My pain doctor said it could last up to a year or year and half. Then I’ve also heard sometimes it only might last maybe none or 2 months. Did it hurt when it was done? Thanks for responding.

I hope you had an MRI to confirm where this pain is coming from, I think they have to do that first. My insurance will cover one ablation a year although if I need it somewhere else on my spine then it’s allowed. It didn’t hurt because I was given the option for preop IV meds or nothing, I chose the medication. Hope this procedure works for you.

I’ve heard they can last 1 to 1 and a half years. Also heard they sometimes only last 3 months. Any time would help but there doesn’t seem to be any time guarantee.

Yes I have and they have works anywhere from Six to eighteen months. May God make them efficacious for you also.

I probably had at least 6 ablations. Very little relief for me. The staff at the doctors office said most people get
50-80% relief. The doctors finally decided that as a last resort to try a spinal stimulator implant. WOW! It’s been life changing! Eliminated at minimum 80% of my lower back pain. It’s a very expensive procedure and insurance companies don’t want to pay for it until you’ve been through all the other treatments.
It’s easy peezy. 2 weeks recovery, very little post op pain and it’s off to the races. All that being said, my back is on average worse than most. That’s why the other procedures did not provide much relief.

I had a RF Ablation last June; about as much relief as the back surgery a year before: none.

I’ve had this done twice on my lower back. It gave me my life back. Prior 15 years I’ve tried many things. Injections, trigger point . Then major surgery,
a fusion, next taking the hardware out thinking my body was rejecting it, next three different times having pain stimulators implanted, but they always navigated to the other side. Neuropathy stimulator for foot from big surgery. Lots of morphine, injections, finally an ablation. First one lasted about 18 months second one it’s been a little over 2 years. It’s time again.
No side effects.
