D-Mannose for frequent bladder infections

Posted by fuzzball @fuzzball, Aug 28, 2020

D-Mannose capsule with vitamin C gives me pains in stomach and loose stools. I need name of USP approved maker of the powder form so that I can break the dosage down to several times a day so that I don’t get this side effect. Also where can I buy it because can’t find Pharmacies or GNC that carry D-Mannose, I had to order on line the first time I tried it and don’t know if it’s a reliable company.

I have used AZO brand for months and NO UTI's. Used to have them every month or more.

I am new on this site so my apologies for duplicating my comment above. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to use D-Mannose ONLY in powdered form. I buy it in bulk on Amazon. I do not even know why they bother to market it in pill form. I'm sure you will have success with this. My journey with UTIs has been far too long and it should not have been.

AZO make a quality product and it's worked for me after trying many, many other products and brands. Monthly UTI's were normal for me until AZO's D-MANNOSE was recomended. Never another UTI !

I tried in person pharmacies and found none. Got -DMannose in powder form from Swanson in 5 days. Got it from Amazon in 1 day. It's the same bottle.

I buy mine at Target and wally world sells as does meijers. 2000 mg capsule once a day works for me. It says on bottle you can take 4 a day. I take mine in the morning with my peanut butter, cocoa, banana, oat and dairy milk smoothie. So far, so good. I also use AZO UTI tests if needed. I don't use anything but AZO brand.

The problem with D-Mannose in capsule form is that many people think they are getting 2000 mg in one capsule, when in reality they are likely getting 500 gms in one capsule. You need 2000 mgs to treat an active UTI. Manufacturers of D-Mannose in capsule form have been getting away with this misinterpretation for too long. If you look at most bottles of D-Mannose in capsule form, it will say 1000 mgs or 2000 mgs on the bottle. However, look closely at the directions and note that one capsule is likely 500 mgs and that to get 1000 mgs you need to take 2 capsules. To get 2000 mgs, you need to take 4 capsules. Please, be careful and read the directions on the bottle. After having frequent UTIs for many years and being desperate for relief, I have been UTI free for almost 15 months after taking the following: For an acute UTI, I take 1 teaspoon of powdered D-Mannose, rounded (2000+ mg) every 2-3 hours in 1/2 cup of water, for 5 days. Try to wake up throughout the night to take your dose. Taking higher doses may cause diarrhea. Wait for 45 minutes to an hour. Then, drink plenty of water in order to flush out the bladder and get rid of E-Col. For a Preventive Dose, I take 1 teaspoon, two times a day for long term maintenance. I plan to do this indefinitely. Take D-Mannose as early as possible when you first notice symptoms, before the UTI fully develops. I buy PURE or NOW brands of powdered D-Mannose from Amazon. I buy the bulk package as there is cost savings. D-Mannose is a simple sugar that is thought to block e-coli bacteria from sticking to the urinary tract and bladder walls. I only wish that I had discovered D-Mannose years ago. I discovered it while researching bladder infections on line where I found interesting studies by DR. OREOLUWA OGUNYEMI, MD. I wish you all the same life changing results that I have had.

I’ll look into it and it would beat taking Cephalexin every day. I also use a pea size amount of estrogen cream 3-4 times a week. It’s been successful but it’s still a drug. Stay well!!
