How to deal with constant pain for years

I’ve suffered with chronic pain for many years. However, I’m now almost 75 and for some reason my pain has escalated over the last year. Doctors do not seem to pay much attention when I try to explain how bad I hurt. I know with the right treatment I can continue to live on my own. I’d like to have some quality in life but chronic pain can take over a persons life. My life revolves around my pain and it prevents me from engaging in activities I’d like to. How can a person be interested in doing things when their body is taken over by pain? It’s sad that the right medicines could make a big difference but what can a patient do? We are helpless.

I have same problem. Pain takes over your life. I am on antidepressants too nothing helps. I feel like life is not worth living

I love that you wrote "chronic pain can take over a person's life" because it is true. I'd like to think that is why we have turned to support groups like this one. It's another way to fight to keep our spirits up.
I am 67 and noticed something when my parents were older than 70; I don't think they were taken seriously. I would fly cross country to take them to medical appointments! I still don't know if they had better care. I am a retired disable RN. I always felt a rapport with my older patients. But sadly don't think it's true in a general way. Seeing a gerontologist, geriatric doctor, taking family or friends to appointments.
You deserve better treatment. We all do.
