Osteoporosis quite severe if I started hrt now will it help . I am 74
Any other woman of a similar age to myself with osteoporosis found hrt helpful quickly? I am just so scared of the other drugs. I have had no fractures yet but I feel they are imminent !!

I can’t take hormones. I have factor V Leiden. A blood clotting issue.
I don’t know what that is I am sorry. It seems us women have so many issues to deal with as we age. Mine seem to be all skeletal issues so I suppose I am lucky in a way. Let’s hope life jogs along ok for us.
@dougajoi, Where did you learn that the medications may be related to dementia? I am presently on Forteo, but have noticed the brain fog and more memory problems. My mother had dementia, so I am very afraid that I could get the disease. Thanks for your comment.
I can relate! I feel that if it wasn't for my skeletal issues, I'd feel great. Lol. I fractured my L3 last year which has healed but this year my skeleton had new plans for me. Currently I'm in my 7th week of having sit bone bursitis (developed from sitting too long on an hard chair) and I'm starting PT tomorrow as well as seeing a Ortho Sports MD next week. My concern is that everything I should be doing to strengthen the lower part of the body are the very exercises I now can't do because they aggravate the bursitis. If it's not one thing, it's another.
My L3 is -4.7!!!! Hip much better. 74 and no fractures yet! SI joint and sitting is a nightmare too!! Started the HRT and testosterone today hope it works quickly !
Would you please provide the link for any studies showing COVID causing rapid bone loss. Thank you.
I don’t personally have a link. Maybe you could research it . Sorry. In my case it’s just my own experience. Not Covid but the vaccine. I have heard lots of people who think the same but nothing has been proved YET.
Here's a paper discussing Covid's impact on bone metabolism:
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10912131/
It's lengthy but here are a couple of paragraphs from the paper that summarize the impact.
"Emerging research suggests that SARS-CoV-2 infection may have significant effects on bone health, potentially leading to bone loss. Two studies identified hypocalcemia, characterized by low blood calcium levels, as a prevalent condition in SARS-CoV-2 patients, and low levels correlated with increased disease severity and worse clinical outcomes [75, 76]. A third study found SARS-CoV-2 infection altered bone turnover markers, suggesting that even moderate severity of SARS-CoV-2 infection could impact bone health and potentially lead to bone loss, even without concurrent hypocalcemia [77•].
These findings increase concern that SARS-CoV-2 infection may have long-term effects on bone health, underscoring the importance of evaluating patients’ bone turnover markers and fracture risk post-recovery."
I am 67 with severe osteoporosis. I did Forteo to build bone and then Raloxifene to maintain the gains.
No side effects at all with Raloxifene . Forteo initially had some headaches and tummy upset, but just took it at night and that worked. I am also very med sensitive, so happy this worked and I have had no further fractures for the past 8 years. If you need to build bone, I would research Forteo.
I cannot do that because of my clotting mutation. But I wish you the best🙏🏻
