I cant help biting my tongue.
I was diagnosed with polyneuropathy a while ago and I also have some symptoms like tripping over obstacles while walking and difficulty climbing stairs and biting my tongue while eating. I wear dentures and I read on the internet that ill fitting dentures can also cause this. Does anyone know what is wrong with me?

Hi,
Polyneuropathy is likely behind it, tripping is more likely to do with the Autonomic function. I have Autonomic polyneuropathy which is all my nerves affected. I always thought biting my tounge was just dumb luck on my part, I don't have dentures. Fortunately I don't do it often enough to be of any concern, until it happens, 2/3 times a month maybe. I have to think about what I'm doing and concentrate on that when I'm doing it, when I leave it up to the autonomic features of this body they randomly let me down. I trip, fall, stumble, shuffle and take the full width of a pathway when walking slowly. I tend to walk faster and find with this I concentrate more on what I'm doing and become steadier with it. The same goes when I'm chewing food, think about what I'm doing or bite the tounge.
Cheers

Have you had recent MRIs of your head and cervical spine to check structures, blood vessels, spinal cord and nerves?
Have you seen a neurologist for updated EMG/nerve conduction studies of your upper and lower limbs?
You may benefit from eating a softer diet which does not require as much chewing so you don’t keep biting and injuring your tongue.
Are you taking any medications or supplements for neuropathy?
