BCG and UTIs: Anyone else get urinary tract infections?
I had one BGG treatment and have been unable to continue because of persistent UTIs. It's one antibiotic after another and none help. Anyone else in this situation? I am an 86 year old male and want to get on with my treatment.

Hello @wohali. I can't say that my husband had that issue. He did have one UTI but was able to clear it and continue treatment. Did they culture your urine and do a sensitivity testing to show what antibiotic would be most effective? That is what Mayo Clinic does any time my husband has a UTI possibility, especially since his neobladder surgery. Perhaps you can inquire about that with your medical team?
I catch viruses and bacterial infections easily and some have put me in the hospital for months. I told my urologist this and he said he will watch me carefully to catch any infection early.
@wohali, I hope you saw the helpful responses from @sepdvm and @peter51f.
Wohali, have you been able to continue treatment with close monitoring for infection?

Have had 4 BCG treatments with no UTI. Hope things get better for you. Hang in there!

1 ReactionI am going on 83 and have gone the full course of BCG treatments. I’m continually getting UTIs. I’ve gone through just about every antibiotic that you can think of, so I’m in the same boat that you are. I think our age has something to do with it cause older folks seem to get continual UTIs.

2 ReactionsHello, everyone. I've been taking BCG treatments for two years. After the first treatment, I contracted a UTI, causing me to miss the following treatments, and not to mention how painful it is to urinate. In fact, I just had treatment on the Jan 6 and am going through severe pain, joint pain, fever, headaches, and more...
It's horribleible.
@mrdee63 sorry you are having problems with BCG. I too started having the same symptoms after treatment three of the initial series of six and they just kept getting worse with subsequent sessions. I’m on my second maintenance series of three and the doc agreed to lower my 50% dose to 33%. That has helped. I still get the side effects but they are reduced in severity and duration. Now I’m just about back to normal after 12 hours or so.
I had GemDoce induction. Should have been six sessions, but they were interrupted twice by UTIs, so I ended up having only 5 instillations, which the oncologist said would be OK. I'll find out on Feb 12!
