How do you deal with itchy ear canal.

Demodex over growth is not likely in our ears. Those commercials will whip up hysteria over parasites and make money off phobias. The cartoonish commercials are not very informative and generate increased costs. Would not consider ivermectin pertinent for ear problems.

Suffered for YEARS! Docs would say wax in ears. Finally Otolaryngologist said it was more like eczema flakes, not ear wax. Asked him if I could use the meds my dermatologist prescribed for facial eczema. (Betamethasone liquid) He said yes. ONE APPLICATION-ONE! and the itching stopped! So I used daily for a week or 2, then went down to once a week, now I only use as needed, which is rarely. It’s a strong liquid steroid (much stronger than over the counter corticosteroids) so you don’t want to use it more than necessary, I use a q-tip (I know, I know) to apply to the walls of the canal so I won’t overuse. This is just my story, doesn’t mean it works for anyone else, but for me it was truly a miracle and I wish docs had recommended it years earlier.

Always include an ENT in your ear issues. My chronically itchy ear was a cancer, invisible from the surface and on initial CT scan. Only when it started to produce pain did I follow up with ENTs until a diagnosis was made.

And a veterinary comment on the Demodex transmission: Demodex is not contagious. Other mites certainly can be, even between species. Demodex requires a compromised immune system to produce problems in animals, and it is not transmissible to humans. We have our own Demodex mites.
