Reclast infusion today
I just wanted to let people know about my recent Reclast infusion. I hydrated for a couple of days before the infusion with water and coconut water for potassium. I take ionic magnesium daily in water and drink it all day. Before my infusion I took ibuprofen and 4 Zyrtec. 2 in the AM, which I normally take and 2 more an hour before the 2 pm infusion. My specialist told me I can take that for my severe allergic reaction to fragrance. Even though the hospital is fragrance free, I always run into fragrance there. This time is was the warm blanket and pillow.
About 5 pm, I started feeling wishy washy like I had to think hard about doing things. For example, using the microwave I turned on the vent while cooking. When I no longer needed the fan, I couldn't find the correct button to shut the vent fan off. It was un-nerving. Eventually, I figured it out. It reminded me of when I had bad Lyme disease. I was extremely hungry, ate my dinner and then ate a whole sleeve of crackers, which I have never done before. I got very tired and went to bed early. I had strange dreams. For example, I dreamt I grew a second spine. When I woke up my body was achy and I felt nauseous. Today, I am able to putter around, but it is a low energy day. If this is as bad as it gets, and is temporary, I would get the infusion again, if it helps retain the bone that I hopefully built with the 12 months of Evenity. If anything changes, or gets worse, I will let you know.

Thanks for sharing your experience with Reclast. I too have just completed 2 years of Tymlos with insignificant gains and plan to do Evenity for 1 yr. and then transition to Reclast. Im curius as to the gains you made on Evenity. Would you kindly share this info with me as I'm feeling a bit hesitant about starting Evenity.
I don’t know what my gains are with Evenity. I had a dexa scan before, but none after. It is scheduled. My Dr said it will keep working to build bone for a while yet, it doesn't just stop. When I know, I will tell everyone! I didn’t have side effects. I had a cardiovascular work up.
I did ask for the injections to be given very slowly to reduce injection site irritation and found that my stomach was the best place for injections.
Best wishes
Karen

1 ReactionAlso, an update on Reclast symptoms. I had to stop puttering, turned on my electric blanket because I was shivering with cold, and crawled in. Later, about 4 PM, I felt a bit better. The achiness subsided a bit and I was able to go feed my horse and chickens. This morning, I just have some aches and am a bit more tired than usual. Good day to work on my taxes.
I am wondering if the foggy thinking yesterday was from a storm of cytokenes in my body, which affected my brain?
My Fellow Reclastonites,
Don't forget to have your doctor prescribe a "slow infusion" for Reclast and that the tech/nurse who administers it adheres to that request. Prior to my last infusion, I remembered my doc telling me that it should take 45 minutes to an hour for the infusion . . . when I asked my nurse, she said, "Oh, only about 15 minutes." Had I not asked and verified . . . just sayin'!
It is my understanding that the longer infusion time causes fewer side effects.
Wishing everyone sunny skies and strong bones! Cheers!

4 ReactionsGreat information. Ty
My infusion nurse said it would take 30 mins. My Dr said she was putting in for 45 minutes. I told the nurse and because 'they weren't busy', she would do the 45 minutes, but she 'had never heard of it, and it wouldn't make a difference '. So, speak up!

1 ReactionI had 5 yearly Reclast infusions. Never had a side effect. Phew! My endo told me last year that there are only so many Reclast infusions one can have thus I was taken off Reclast and now I have Prolia shots. After reading the comments here about Prolia ( very negative) and not having any side effects…I recently spoke to my previous endo associated with a top NYC hospital. I moved, hence, the new endo. My old endo stated that there is fantastic research on Prolia to show that it rebuilds bones and I will be on it for the rest of my life. So…I am here to say to all the naysayers….if your doctor recommends Prolia…take it!! I am 75, never had any fractures and looking forward to my next DEXA with the hopes of seeing positive bone health. Good luck to all.

3 ReactionsI am curious, 3 days out, how are you doing? I started out a lot like you described only some symptoms did not go away and I acquired other symptoms, such as terrible shoulder and foot pain, nine months later, still have it!

1 ReactionI am sorry you still have symptoms. I am fortunate that pretty much at the 24 hour mark symptoms started to remarkably reverse. By day three, they were completely gone. I don’t know if it made s difference, but I took maximum doses of Zyrtec for a couple of days, hydrated and paid close attention to getting natural electrolytes. I didn’t take my statin for a few days thinking my body may be taxed from filtering. More than likely, it was just luck.
