What was the key point at which you determined sleep apnea was the culprit, as I think most of cpap stuff is a $ game... I feel that the places that do the testing have a self interest in selling the product. Pls help me understand or debunk my idea that cpap stuff isn't over prescribed. Sorry to put you on the spot, but I am new to the Mayo site. TY, in advance.

CPAP is only a $$$ game when the patient is non-apneic/undiagnosed and wanting to part with their money, or diagnosed but given the wrong/more expensive equipment. People with a forma diagnosis, given at a sleep lab, will be advised to acquire PAP machinery if they have mild to severe apnea. Literally millions across the globe use the machines to good effect.
Again, it's only a numbers game if the patient is ignorant of their condition and don't follow a prescription for a bona fide need.
