I was right where you are a year and a half ago. It is perfectly normal to be nervous. I had a wonderful surgeon and got through it. Knowing I no longer have to go through Diverticulitis attacks is a Godsend! If your doc agrees, use Gas-X for the gas following surgery. It helps tremendously.
Be gentle with yourself--this is major surgery. Get up (with help and when they suggest it) and walk to break up the gas and to help jumpstart your digestive system--anesthesia and pain meds slow it down. It's a process and you'll get through it. People on this forum give very helpful advice. I wish you luck and speedy healing!
Hi, @lauriecurly - you'd mentioned that your surgery is coming up tomorrow and that you'd been feeling scared. Wondering how you are doing now that your surgery is almost here?
It's been over a year for me. It was supposed to be robotic and ended up having to open up. I am not regretful at all having the surgery. I wish I would have had it earlier.
So glad I had it done.
What kind of surgery will you have?
