Which started out as a minor kneading in my stomach has now exacerbated to finding things to eat that don’t cause stomach pain, to insomnia, To lethargic to Stomach gurgling found out. I had a zinc deficiency and I cannot take the medication because it causes severe diarrhea. I am so much at a loss has anyone here had similar symptoms and found out They had intestinal permeability? And what did you do or can you do about it?

about not being able to take the Zinc to deal with the deficiency...... when I took Zinc, I had to take smaller amounts through the day, with meals. That helped me to be able to absorb / digest it without problems, and allowed me to build up my Zinc levels. Hope that helps.
Zinc in regular quantities made me feel very sick.

Consider two or more separate tests for leaky gut:

1. The zonulin test is available in both blood and stool-based formats, depending on the provider:
Stool Test: Providers like Diagnostic Solutions Laboratory and Immundiagnostik offer stool-based zonulin tests, which measure zonulin family peptides to evaluate intestinal permeability ("leaky gut") The stool sample is preferred for assessing gut barrier function and dysbiosis.

Blood Test:
Some laboratories offer serum zonulin tests, which measure zonulin levels directly in the blood
Zonulin antibodies can also be measured in blood to provide a more accurate assessment of zonulin activity, though please confirm this.

2. The IBS-Smart blood test from Gemelli Tech
Dr. Mark Pimentel developed the IBS-Smart blood test, which measures anti-CdtB and anti-vinculin antibodies. These markers are associated with post-infectious IBS, a condition often triggered by food poisoning. The test helps diagnose IBS with diarrhea (IBS-D) or mixed symptoms (IBS-M) and has a high positive predictive value (up to 100%) for IBS diagnosis. It does not measure zonulin, which is a separate biomarker for intestinal permeability used in other contexts but not part of the IBS-Smart test.

Leaky gut manifests in other symptoms such as histamine or mast cell activiation, brain inflammation, itching, eye irritation and others. A SIBO specialist, naturaopath or chiropractor often has training from Siebeker or Pimental with respect to testing, tratment and symptom pictures. By contrast the gastroenterologist may not believe in; leaky gut, sibo, imo or HS2 and refer you to an Allergist. Ouch!

As a side note; your description does not line up well with a classical leaky gut picture, why pursue leaky gut?

@wilks13, I'm tagging a few members who have talked about a leaky gut/intestinal permeability to see if you have had symptoms like to trying finding things to eat that don’t cause stomach pain, insomnia, lethargy and stomach gurgling @nanceedeefeperi @tabithatwitch @millerdust @eslavik1 @cc13 @linh. @jigglejaws94 @johnbluffside also may have some thoughts.

How are your symptoms this week, wilks13?

I have always had a difficult time with supplements. They cause a variety of issues, so I have to start with a very low "dose" and gradually increase depending on how my body reacts.
I know the AIP diet seems to be a trendy thing right now, but I started it about 3 weeks ago, and it has really helped me evaluate what works best for me, and is hopefully helping with my inflammation and gut biome. I have puffy paws for hands due to systemic sclerosis, and they are much less puffy even in this short amount of time. My rheumatologist informed me that this is frequently what happens in the lungs and wants me to start some very frightening medication. I asked if there were other options (like diet) and he said no. I would highly recommend researching ways to heal inflammation and leaky gut. I wish more doctors didn't head straight to very strong medications with potentially awful side effects.

I had Leaky gut several years ago and went to a Nutritionist...and had the MRT LEAP food sensitivity test done..(in 2022 it cost $500 and not covered by insurance.. the Nutritionist was $75 per visit (we did it over the phone as I was very ill and she was over 90 miles each way)..and I did the food elimination? readdiction process for about 4 months..she put me on strong Vitamins ( with I had a hard time taking..(contained mag citrate) and probiotics and a vitamin D 3drop.. which I just started on a Saturday.. 3 drops.. I had an almost anaphylactic reaction to those (scary.. widowed at home alone!!) So.. the test results alot of foods . dyes etc.. very informative.. I just couldn't keep trying the 4 of 5 things per week she wanted me to try and I thought there were only 5 phases.. then came phase 6 and it was for several months!! And I just stopped..it has been a roller coaster since then. got down to 98 lbs ..and found out I was positive for scleroderma..elevated SCL70.. but the rheumatologist said.."It's a miracle.. you don't have it.(he was on a TV appt in his office and he started to cry. and I thought ok.. I'm just dying and he can't bear to tell me.. but now . he was overwhelmed and Praising the Lord!! Me to!! So I have pyloric stenosis..and have to have it ballooned every several months with and EDG..still have alot of sensitivities and can't see the allergist .. you have to be off PPIs for a week to get skin tests.. so..I drink 2 vanilla plant based ensures a day.. and take Trulance and Miralax.and VSL3 probiotics..and stand in faith ..my new Primary care put me on B12 shots.. which contain cobalt..I am sensitive to metal..and ended up in ER after 2nd shot.. whew!! This is what I know about Leaky Gut.. I don't know if this info helps you.. but I will pray for you .. and I know that will help!! Bless your heart!! Leaky Gut is no fun!! Keep a record of what you eat an your reations...praying you will find your answers and stay strong!!

I have a chewable zinc lozenge with vitamin C from country life. I have to take it immediately after a meal. Zinc is notorious for upsetting your stomach if it’s empty. Have you tried it with food? This one doesn’t upset me as long as I have just eaten. It has 23 mg per tablet and I usually try to chew one and a half to two tablets per day. Good luck!
