Has anyone had kidney problems after having COVID or the vaccine?
I had COVID in Dec of 2020 and I noticed my GFR started dropping and my creatine start rising. I'm hoping to get some major testing done and get a good diagnosis

My husband has IgA. He was not diagnosed until he was 42 which from our understanding is later in life than most end up getting diagnosed. He was already end-stage renal failure by the time we caught it. The only way to diagnose it is through a kidney biopsy. We both had severe covid in early 2020. His nephrologist thinks (not 100% confirmed, just a theory) is that the strong immune response from covid kicked his immune system into high gear causing the IgA to "flare up" and do its final number on his remaining kidney function. If we look back over the years we can see there were signs of kidney decline but really we did not see it for it was until he was in end-stage and the high blood pressure symptoms caused him to go to the doctor. There are DNA tests that can show if you are a carrier of IgA but the only diagnostic tool is a biopsy.
Ended up with kidney cancer in 2021
Yes. After I received the Covid vaccine second booster my creatinine started rising from 1.13 in 05/21 to 1.77 by 11/22. I tested positive for Lupus (anti-DS Antibody of 2500), my EBV titer was high, I got shingles almost once a month. My eGFR went from 63 to 32. I also had secondary lymphedema and gained 60 lbs. If it weren’t for my Functional Medicine Dr, a wonderful Rheumatologist and a physical therapist helping me, I don’t know that I would be back to good health as I am now. I should mention I am diabetic, but up to the vaccine, I was relatively healthy. I really never got a diagnosis after post-vaccine, other than “Protein Spike Toxicity”. I was treated by the Functional Medicine physician to build up my immunity. It took me until July 2024 to feel whole again. Thankfully, because of good practitioners, I was able to control the lymphedema, I have no symptoms of Lupus, my creatinine is 1.4, eGFR is 40-45. I lost 66 pounds mostly from water and also switched to a plant based diet. I have been looking for studies to show post-vaccine toxicity but have not found any robust studies.
@jmr4ever it looks like you have a fairly complicated medical profile. When there’s a lot going on it is hard to say for sure what is responsible for any one symptom or ailment. (Lupus, Epstein Barr, Shingles, Lymphedema, Diabetes, “Protein Spike Toxicity”, possible chronic kidney disease, weight gain / loss… I hope I haven’t missed anything.) You have sought out specialists and a diet to assist you in this journey. Have you considered endocrinology, nephrology and a dietitian well versed in diabetes and renal plans nutrition? If you find any “robust” studies on post-vaccine toxicity will you post your findings? A lot of us would be interested to hear.
Thanks. Yes, I do have a nephrologist and renal dietician and a functional medicine physician along with a PCP.
I have lost all of the weight gained during this period and then more.
All of the symptoms and issues mentioned happened after the Covid vaccine was administered.
There were many great medical personnel who cared and were willing to help, however I persisted in looking for answers and was very proactive.
