Pain and burning in glutes and lower back
Hi, I have pain in my glutes from last 8 months. My glutes burn and painful when I sit. And after sometime it used to get very sore. soreness is there throughout the day. And then the burning pain settles after rest, Right now, this is 8-9 months, I am not able to sit continuously more than 15-20 minutes. The glutes keeps burning and from last 1 and a half month, my lower back too started paining. I feel burn and pain there in lower back. MRI says that mild disc bulge at L4, L5 and S1. And in the pelvic, there is no issue. Sacroiliac joint, no issues. Just that is mild disc bulge. And I have shown to too many doctors, but the issue is not solved and they are not giving proper diagnostic except PT which is not helping me. The pain is in the lower back, glutes and behind the hamstring, behind the thighs, posterior hamstring area. Below the greater trochanter till the knee. The hamstring is not tight, but it burns when I sit, when I put weight on it. So, this is the posterior hamstring part. Any solution, any diagnosis or something can help me, please assist.
Thanks

I have had the same burning in my glutes ( inner) and upper posterior thighs for 3 years along with leg weakness, bladder issues and other issues along the S2 nerve dermatome. It is caused by a Tarlov Cyst on my S2 nerve as a result of a fall. Does it feel lime you are sitting on a block of wood? Look up Tarlov Cyst. A sacral- not pelvic- MRI is needed. Often radiologists don’t report them because most doctors believe they are asymptomatic. I’m having surgery to correct it in several weeks.
Gabapentin is the dizzy culprit- they say you'll get used to it but I never do and quit. Tramadol is great for me.
I used tramadol but problem is my ears and buzzing after 3 doses. Can we use tramadol long term are there any side affects. How ling you been using it.
I have pelvic and si joint mri which is normal except mild degenerative changes in hip joint.
So with these medicine how much pain reduced if 10 bejng worst and 1 being least pain. Also how long can we use them are they not causing any side affects except dazness
A Sacrum/Coccyx MRI is needed to diagnose Tarlov Cysts in the sacrum. Pelvic or lumbar MRIs don’t show enough of the sacrum.
I have the burning and also my buttock n upper thighs get pure red. Noone seems to know what this is? Do others who have this get pure redness on skin when it’s burning?
Did you have the surgery to remove that cyst and did it help you? I’ve been having the burning on my glutes that are physically red for years I wonder if having the surgery has helped you??
I’m scheduled for surgery on April 17 by Dr Rudolph Schot at Sutter Memorial Hospital in Sacramento CA. He is one of only a handful of doctors in the country who do the repair surgeries. The cysts are a bulging of the spinal dura filled with nerve fibers. The bulging presses on nearby nerves causing a variety of symptoms. Mine is on the S2 sacral nerve. They ate not removed but rather drained and wrapped so they can’t refill. I’m hoping it relieves the 24/7 burning in my glutes and posterior thigjs.
I read up on it and I saw that if they burst it, it’s more dangerous because they would fill it up till it burst, but that kind of affect the nerves Thank you for responding so quickly, and I really pray that this works. I’m going to ask my Surgeon at the Mayo Clinic to look at my scans again to check and see if I have this. I had SI fusion and thought the burning was coming from the rods which were made of titanium. They had a very hard time taking them out as they were in for four years. I couldn’t find anyone to take them out because this one doctor is the only one that knows how to do it. Sadly, it did not relieve the nerve pain or the redness and burning so I’m still on a hunt to figure out what is going on. I will mention it to him on my follow up appointment. I only had surgery seven weeks ago to remove my six IFuse rods. It feels better as it’s not pinching, but my pain is actually increased from the burning. I think when the nerves get angry, they really let your body know. This would probably be my next step is to see if I have the cyst in there. How many assist do you have? Are they big or small? I don’t know if I could do another MRI. I get so freaked out in those machines. I’ve heard that sometimes they will show up on MRIs, but I know you had said that you have to have a different type of MRI not pelvis, but sacral. I just hate going into those machines. I literally can’t breathe even if I take lorazepam doesn’t do anything. Please keep me updated if you can to how the surgery works for you. I pray that it works because nerve pain is the absolute worst. I use an ice machine just to calm down the nerves when they flare up, which is several times a day and night.
Good luck I will be thinking about you!
