Extremely Dry Sinuses
I have been dealing with extremely dry sinuses and post nasal drip for the past 5 years and cannot find a remedy. My ENT is no help! I also have Acid Reflux and GERD and know that the acid comes back up in my throat and my ENT says that the mucous in my throat is not post nasal drip, it's from the acid reflux, however, I totally disagree. Yes I have the acid reflux but I can tell that the mucous in my throat is from my sinuses. I get headaches and always have blood in my nose and dried blood. I use saline nasal moisture spray, Mucinex and a humidifier at night. Nose sprays like Flonase and antihistamines only dry out my sinuses more. I am desperate and appreciate any feedback on successful remedies.

Hi,
I've used Mupirocin and Neosporin for at least 25 years. I never run out. The Mupirocin is the most effective. It will clear things up for a few months but then you have to start using it again. It's by prescription. You want to ask your doctor for Mupirocin Ointment USP, 2%. The Neosporin is over the counter and not as effective but pretty good. Mentholatum is good too and over the counter. I hope things work out for you!

My Dr gave me this yesterday .you use it for dry sinuses? Do you put your way up in your nose or the edge
I put it inside my nose; especially on the sore spot. I do that several times a day or whenever it's needed. Mupirocin is also good for healing any cuts or infections you may have besides a problem with your nose. I react to a lot of medications but Mupirocin doesn't bother me at all. There are no side effects.

I don’t usually respond to this group but I saw your earlier post. Do you have a cough with the mucus? Were you diagnosed by the ENT with “thick mucus”?
Just a head’s up that if you have excessive mucus and a cough and sinus pressure etc, be vigilant if you get an upper respiratory infection.
Have your doctor or ENT treat these infections properly (if bacterial based, you probably need antibiotics) to ensure any bacterial infections don’t become lower respiratory or lung based.

You sound like me. I have had post nasal drip for years. And my Mom had it and one sister has had it. I always thought it was from my allergies but now my ENT says it is from acid reflux. I’m not sure I believe that, or maybe only sometimes it is related to that….I know I have had allergies for 60 years. My PND was always associated with that. My acid reflux is not that bad. I get it about midway through my sleep cycle. I feel it in my chest area and the back of my throat will be burning a little when I wake up. Once I get up, it’s gone. And I sleep on a wedge. I get a dried nose and bleeding from Flonase. I also take Allegra and use saline spray. I’m now on Pepcid but I am getting pain in my back and that has happened before when they put me on various reflux drugs. I don’t want to take reflux drugs but I have bronchiectasis and my pulmonary doc is concerned. (And my ENT and my Gastro. I’m not sure what I am going to do. So many doctors!!) and now I hear my gastro doc is gone for a month….its almost impossible to get in to see him so how will I get in to see someone else? Are we having fun yet?
