My nose gets blocked at night, I breath through my nose so I’m having a lot of sleepless nights atm as I’m trying to come off the oltravine nasal drops which I’ve been using for over 20 years. It’s helped me breathe at night but my nose is getting stuffy now. I’ve been to ENT had surgery to take off some of my bone as i struggle to breathe through one side. I’ve been given steroids drops, nothing works. I’ve been off the spray for 4 weeks but have started using it again because of one side of my nose. Are there any other medications I can use? I’ve tried a lot of stuff. I need to stop using the drops

jo123, Hey there! I have a long history of sinus & allergies. Things that work:

1) A cool mist humidifer in the bedroom.
2) Irrigation of the sinus with NeilMed sinus rinse.
3) Elevate your bed with wooden blocks or more pillows.
4) Nasal Ayr Saline spray.
5) Are you on something like Flonase? It helps as well.
6) ENT recommended me to use Afrin 12 hr for 2 days AND COME OFF. You can rebound with this and get worse if you stay on it longer.
7) Polyestyer or any other hypoallergenic pillows. No feather pillows.
8) A pillow case cover for allergies.
9) Wash sheets & pillow cases in hot water weekly....no perfumes. I use All free & clear.
10) Do you have deviated septum on the side of your nose that is blocked? That has to be surgical corrected.
11) The breathe right nasal strips that you put across your nose at night work wonders for some folks that have
trouble breathing. They are on Amazon.

Please ask your doctor before trying any of this. I wish you the best. Blessings & Prayers.....

I question if something in your bedroom is triggering allergies for you.

Wow. You have already are being followed by ENT and had surgery. I cannot believe that you are still suffering.
I think you should find a different ENT. Someone who can address your problem.
When my child and grandchildren get those problems, I usually use warm mist from the shower to help them breathe. Maybe you can try a warm mist humidifier at night. I use saline nasal spray for stuffiness.
I hope you find help to get uninterrupted sleep. I’m not sure if these will work but I hope they do. Take care.

I’ve also suffered from nasal congestion. Had CT scan….ENT says normal….so, I got much better recently when I took a regimen of antibiotics for a dental matter. I know…..it’s bizarre. It cleared up most of my drainage too. I have no idea why. Perhaps, coincidence. I’m also seeing an allergist soon.

I am the member who got bacterial meningitis of my brain from chronic sinusitis . Had access left temporal lobe. Craniotomy to remove. Was septic multi organ failure on a vent medically induced coma. Almost 11 years ago. I had to turn my life right side up..I usd neilmed sinus rinse with 1/4 teaspoon white vinegar 3 to 4 times daily plus ayr spray. I run a hepa air purifier with a toxin filter 24/7.I use a hepa vacuum. 5 years of allergy shots by allergist- immunologist. 13 arms of my immune system were down so I had many vaccines as well. Prevnar 13 15 23..MMR. tetanus. Etc. It was extensive treatment along with other health care providers and therapists for ptsd. I monitor the air quality indoors and out..I remarried moved to the desert southwest from the Midwest and got some further improvement..
