What are your experiences with tramadol ?

Posted by Always Hopeful @AlwaysHopeful, Jun 16, 2024

I have been taking tramadol for over 20 years. It was first prescribed for knee pain. This was the era when they did meniscus surgery. I'm sure the medication is not effective for me now, but it continues to be prescribed. Any other thoughts or experiences?

How do you get the DNA testing? Does insurance cover it. Gabapentin doesn't help my fibro pain very much. It does help me sleep at night.

Your doctor should know or a psychiatrist in the same clinic would know.

I can’t take Tramadol either. I got into a bad state with extreme dizziness, sweating and fast heartbeat the one time I took it. So with advanced, severe disc degeneration, arthritis and stenosis in the lumbar spine (plus feet knees and neck) I have had various meds. At the hospital Pain Clinic here in Vancouver, 6 days ago, I had a RFA procedure (radio frequency nerve ablations) that targeted the spinal facet joints at L3, L4, L5 left and right. I am actually walking without extreme back pain and it feels great. The procedure is something you could ask your Dr about. I am so relieved. I get tired and sore though to be expected after using a mobility scooter for a year, before that not getting about much. I just hope it lasts a long time! Apparently the nerves grow back so it can vary. Also I ache terribly with weather changing and here in BC west coast it is cool and wet. Yes I am 75 with this slowly getting worse.

I have substantial back and spine damage and pain that radiates down my legs. But I still continue to do yard work, washing rugs, walk my dogs, doing my housework at 73. When the pain just gets too bad that I dont think I can face the day. I will take 1/2 of a 50mg. This is once in a blue moon, but for that day I am amazed that their once was a time when I actually felt like this. When there was nothing more than a subtle ache in my body. I enjoy that day completely. To consult my primary is a joke, the only thing he will do is write me an RX to take them twice a day. I have no need for another addition, nor do I need liver or kidney damage. So thats my thought on this!

Comfort to you…ask your Dr about spinal facet joint nerve ablation (RFA). It helped me get real relief, the drugs can be a horror. I can’t tolerate Tramadol and so finally had morphine twice a day. So now just one in the night. I add Tylenol during the day 4x 500 mg.

I was given Tramadole for post traumatic surgery . I found the drug very effective .. However years later seperate incident i was given Tramadole and had a severe reaction to it . My heart was racing 1000miles per hr . I was in a car at the time , as a passenger . I ask the driver to stop the car because i felt like i needed to run run run .. I felt like Speedy Gonzalos for 6 hrs strait . Then as it started to subside i got the itchys head to toe .. I will never take Tramadole again . Every doc or hospital visit i make this very clear .

One medication that has worked for me is pregabalin, also know as Lyrica. After three years of chronic pain, this seems to be working. I'm holding my breath. I still take 2 tablets of tramadol (50 mg each) in the evening when I get a headache type of pain that can evolve into a migraine if I don't take the tramadol. I often wonder if this signifies an addiction to tramadol.

I was prescibed Lyrica . For CRPS. I friend came over to visit an seen the box on the table . This friend who had been a self confessed hard illect and presciption drug addicit in a previous life , warned me of his experience . Says Lyrica was by far the worst addictive and worst withdrawal drug he had ever used in his life ..

This is my experience with tramadol. For 3 days no pain, no sleep, 2nd day my vision went blurry, 3rd day worse. The next week I took 1 pill for relief for 1 day, immediately my vision went all blurry.

I started out taking tramadol for fibromyalgia pain and it has been increased to 4 times a day at 50mg plus to 500mg of Tylenol with it. It has very little effect on my pain. I am glad it works for some of you. I wish I could find some kind of pain relief. Any suggestions let me know. Thank you.

I take Natural Factors Thera Curcumin, a lifesaver! I also take at least 400mg magnesium glycinate, and many other supplements. Vitamin D3 is essential. Research natural supplements or Fibromyalgia on lifeextension.com. Hope this helps.
