Is Tymlos appropriate if no fractures?
My endocrinologist has prescribed Tymlos for me. But I’ve never had a fracture. Is this appropriate timing for Tymlos? Would it be better to save it for the future?
I’m 61, T score at spine is -3.3. TBS is normal. I’ve already done 5 years on bisphosphates (but stopped 4 years ago).
Has anyone else been prescribed Tymlos before getting a fracture?

I have only been on it since Feb 11th, and worked my way up to full dose a few weeks ago. No side effects other than my calcium level being a little high..

1 ReactionI have been on HRT for many many years after I went from
Osteopenia into Osteoporosis which reversed it and put me back into Osteopenia.
I am about to turn 70
I was taken off of HRT 3+ yrs ago because a radiologist over read a mammogram. I went through many tests and a biopsy which all came back negative.
My recent mammogram was negative.
My recent Dexascan showed me creeping back into osteoporosis.
I tried bisphophenates many years ago when I was first DX with osteoporosis. I did not tolerate it… my whole body and all my bones ached and I felt like I had a continuous flu. I refuse to take it again.
I am also quite against any of the medications similar due to their action, especially any repository medications.
I am 5’ 4” and weigh around 122lb. I don’t smoke and rarely drink any alcohol (rarely maybe a half glass of red wine at a special social event or high I rarely even finish).
I walk 2-4 miles 2-3 times a week and hike when it’s not super hot out. I ride a
peloton and lift weights almost every day. I started “compound” weight lifting recently.
I was limited during the past 2 years due to a THR (my pelvis was smashed in 1983 and I fell fishing in a canyon 3 yrs ago which pushed my pelvic injury into needing a THR). I also have a chronic shoulder injury from years of weight lifting and about 6 months ago tore the biceps tendon off the insertion. I was told I may need SX on my shoulder but I am building up the muscles instead and going slow or avoiding exercises that exacerbate my shoulder.
I do my best to eat right and have recently realized I need to eat more protein and more food overall to gain muscle and lose belly fat which is happening pretty quickly.
I take a generic calcium/vitd and a magnesium supplement. I recently added Creatine to hen I remember. I started eating prunes and have been taking collagen for quite a while.
I am not sure about my risks for being in HRT and feel maybe I should stay on it? My GP feels it is a good option for me even at my age and having been on it for so many years but she is my GP and maybe not an osteoporosis expert?
I have made an appt with an osteoporosis Dr but will not be seen until
March.
I found the Osteocollective website and liked their webcast but they want ~$450 for a year for accessing their information about diet, exercise, supplements etc.
Thank you

1 ReactionHi @enoyes, it's unfortunate that you were taken off HRT due to a radiology over-read of mammogram, as it might've helped you maintain your bone mineral density. Now you're faced with the question of restarting it at an older age. From what I've seen or experienced, endos often leave the broarder risk assessment to specialists like cardiologists or obgyns, while they mainly focus on whether HRT is appropriate for your osteoporosis management based on factors like your DEXA results, FRAX score and other clinical information. So your decision will likely come down to your current overall risk-benefit profile.
If you don't mind me asking, what dose and form of HRT were you on for all those years before it was stopped? Thanks
