0.1 micrometer reverse osmosis filter
my husband installed a three step reverse osmosis under sink tankless filter- sediment, carbon, and RO 0.1 micrometer filter. I know that carbon filter is an incubator for MAC, sediment filter just collects the basic stuff but does the RO filter with the 0.1micrometer filtration would stop MAC? We could not finf just sediment and 0.1 filters installed in line. All are 0.5 micrometers. Anybody has knowledge about this kind of filtration?

Hello, good evening. What you need is a pre-made reverse osmosis system. Osmosis filtration is done through water pressure. A reverse osmosis system isn't the same as installing in-line filters. The system has a motor that forces the water out under pressure so that osmosis can occur. This means that only water particles pass through, and impurities are retained. Perhaps you should also find out if a remineralizing filter is needed, since the filtered water comes out without calcium or magnesium, which are beneficial for the body. You should check all this with the equipment manufacturer. I hope my comment sheds a little more light on the subject. Anyway, you can find out how it works, the features, and everything else you need on the internet. It's all explained. Best regards.

This is what my husband purchased in Menard ( $180 system tankless) and installed himself. It’s pureH2O 3-stage ultra filtration system with push button filter replacement model H2O- DWUF300. The first filter is sediment next carbon block and last 0.1 micrometer ultra filtration membrane. It comes with the faucet for the filtered water. It’s under the sink and takes little space. It took my husband probably 2 hours to install but if you have a hole in the sink already it’s easier- he had to drill a hole for the faucet. He just said that the same model with a tank is $240. Good luck
So kind of you to reply in such detail, Liliana. I really appreciate it! All the best to you on this journey—so good to know we are in it together.
Originally I was mistaken that it was reverse osmosis but it’s not. It’s just in line under sink tankless system simple
I have been using an under-sink system for many years and have experience with purchasing from a great company I am happy to recommend highly. They have been in business for many years and are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They will guide you with any questions on the filtration and the installation. It's an in-line 4-stage filtration system and quite affordable. Here is a link to the system : https://www.wholesalewatercooler.com/pages/undersink-filter-system
Thanks so much for this information, Sue. You're the best.
Yes the .1 micron filter will stop MAC. I had someone from Leaf systems at my home giving me all the possibilities yesterday. My kitchen island is away from refrig. The RO system sounds great but you will have to put water in refrig he suggests glass bottle as better for u but doesn’t solve problem of ice. He also suggests putting .1 micron filter in cupboard above the refrig and bringing line down to refrig so that way u can drink water and ice from refrig since it goes thru .1 filtration. Additionally he brought up putting in a 254 nm UVC light in garage so water coming in kills DNA before it goes to shower. Of course more options more cost. Has anyone else done any of these other options?
I should add that this system filters to 0.01 microns.
Thanks again Robbie! I just ordered yesterday, and the customer service woman is phenomenal. I would like to do something at bathroom sink and shower as well. Kathy
I wanted to check in specifically on the pureH2O 3-stage ultra filtration system/model H2O- DWUF300. I looked into the product as I am researching systems generally. I looked at the instructions for the unit (on the manufacture's website) and there is a specific warning NOT to use with microbiologically uncertain water, unless the water is first disinfected. I called the company and was told that the filter is not certified to remove bacteria; testing is expensive and they don't test all things. The performance sheet is included in the instructions pdf. The filter is represented as .1 micrometer, which should be sufficient to filter out NTM, and not all products being used in our community have been specifically tested for effectiveness in removing NTM (e.g. LARQ UV water bottle) so each of us needs to make their own judgement call in terms of how much risk/uncertainty we are comfortable with. In looking at certified water filters for removal of NTM the replacement period is generally much shorter than this unit (which is stated as 12 months, which is what made it so attractive to me). That may (or may not) have something to do with testing/certification. I just wanted to make sure others here are aware of the product's warning against using with microbiologically uncertain water and the lack of certification for removal of NTM.
