Hip revision due to metal on metal ions.

Sue, just to clarify....when you had your revision surgery, did they replace both the femoral head and the acetabular cup or did they just replace the cup? Did you go to an orthopedist at Mayo? Thanks again.

I used a Twin Cities surgeon. The femoral head and acetabular cup and liner were replaced. The new head is ceramic, the cup is titanium and the liner is a cross-linked polymer compound.

At the time mine were done in 2011, there was not a suitable liner for the chromium cobalt acetabular cup - since I was made to use without a liner, the ball would have been so small it would have a high risk of dislocation. I'm not sure what they use now.
