What's up with the pain medication

Posted by koneil @koneil, Mar 8 12:42pm

I'm not sure if any members are experiencing this butI am. I am a chronic pain patient. I'm seen for back pain a long with many other issues.
I get a prescription for morphine , used twice a day for 30 days. That medication has been out of stock for over two months here. I also have had problems with 10/325 hydrocodone. They limit my prescriptions to 120 per month. It's also difficult to get. Is anyone else experiencing these issues? Please advise.

@koneil

Im sure marijuana helps, but its still illegal in Texas. The 'reds' are destroying the country.
Enough of that, everyone should stop the bad meds and do more of a complete research for weed. I know it helped me in my early years. ( The 70's and eighties). I did start a couple of procedures, ( injections and pain patches.)
To get through this bump in the road.
I wonder how many people are going through this as well? I do not see this getting any better for me. How do you know when to stop treatment? I mean, since I lived through a reverse total shoulder replacement, spine surgery can not be worse than that. It was also bad because my shouder surgeon forgot to order pain medicationfor after my my surgery. The nursing staff were not that conserned about my pain. Never again will I use this hospital, or the doctor in the future.

In my state they have medical and recreational marijuana. We just passed the rec in 2024. Med marij has been around for the past 5 years. I use it to help go to relax at night and finally fall asleep. I have small fiber neuropathy (SFN) in my feet since 2018. Neurologist are not sure why I got SFN. Maybe from immune surpressant I take for an organ transplants since 2000. I found the Med Marj did help some to sleep at night. But when I wake I still have pain.

Have you tried a Independent Pharmacy? Their hours are not as convenient as chain pharmacys But they usually have these medications when others do not

I use also and it is also been out for more than two months. Morphine sulfate helps me sleep through the night. I have tried many other things with no luck. They keep saying oh we’ll have it soon. Blah blah, blah, blah, blah blah blah blah blah. My doctor said that many other of their patients are having the same problem. Chronic pain patient of almost 10 years.

Drug shortages seem to to be a common problem. There were two medications I was taking that had to be changed to something else just recently because they were unavailable and my pharmacy had no idea when they would get them. Hopefully, you’re a pain management position can find some other medication that can at least get you by until what you need is available again just hang in there the best you can.

Thank you for your comment aec07130. I don't know how I was lucky enough to get my medication. That really just postponed the problem till next month. I've discussed it with my pain doctor. He does have contingency plans for me should this issue arise again. Have you discussed this with your physician? My doctor was willing to go out of his way to help. I have the direct number for his hid NP too.I wonder, with all of these changes happening at the federal level if they will discontinue opioid for chronic pain. I'm sure it won't be a popular decision.
But, that hasn't swayed them yet.

Don’t even say it. It scares me a lot. I wouldn’t be able to function without opioids. We try different medication, but it was so expensive. At this point, he just upped my amount of oxy. I take an extra every day to get me through the night usually around 2 AM

Sometimes I feel that’s all we can do. I almost feel like if I have a new knee revision maybe this pain will go away. Then I just say tough luck kid get going.

I can only take 2 Tramadol 50 mg daily as per my physician.
I live on Ibuprofen during the day, but at dinner time and bedtime I take the Tramadol and it does help my pain.
I recently was put on Lyrica 50 mg twice per day, and I’m too early into it to really evaluate if it working or not.
I’m still getting pain and pins and needles in my feet.

Hey aec07130. I shouldn't have ssaid that. It's just going to put an extra issue that's just going to cause unnecessary worry. As long as you're taking your meds as prescribed, you shouldn't worry. I'm not too sure about taking an extra one at night. Follow your doctors orders. Opioids are dangerous and all protocol should be used while taking them. You and I both know that. Taking an extra for any medication should be avoided unless authorized by your doctor. I would tell him/ her that you are having difficulty sleeping without extra meds. If you take a drug test every visit( like I have to) it may show up. I also have pill counts that are randomly requested by my pain physician. Don't be a statistic and prove the people right. That, in the long run, hurts all of us under pain management. I understand your issue. Just be careful.
