Small Fiber Neuropathy burning?

Posted by katec @katec, Mar 22, 2020

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all doing well with the quarantine. We are hanging in there!!

I have a question about small fiber neuropathy. As you know, my 15 year old son has it. His only symptom so far (4 years now) has been severe pain on the bottoms of both of his feet. Today he’s complaining of a burning sensation when his shorts touch a certain place on his thigh. I know SFN is sometimes called the burning syndrome, but I thought it was more of a widespread type of burning, not just a small spot (size of an iPhone). Have any of you experienced this before? Just the patchy burning? Thanks so much!!

You might be able to take tegretol, which has been miraculous for me. I take 400mg each morning and evening.

After pulling a muscle in my back which caused severe back pains and sciatica pains in my leg. I begun experiencing for the first time pains and burning along & under my feet making it difficult to to sleep. My Orthopaedic doctor have me n physiotherapy & Pregasafe 150 mg, which reduced the pains immediately
and also Neururobina Forte tabs (Vit B's) which I take daily now. This has helped tremendously with no side effects.

I live in Michigan and the doctors here don’t do much for pain. At least that’s been my experience I’m going to write down your medication and show them to my doctor and see if he might prescribe me something to helpThank you so much for sharing blessings my friend🥰

My left leg is the worse, my feet are always on fire. I can't sleep on my left side. I have to soak my feet in cool water just to calm my nerves. I've even slept with wet socks on. I have to sleep with my legs uncovered. Sleep usually helps but I also get internal vibrations that hinder my sleep.

Hi Kate @katec. I'm sorry to hear about the burning. Yes, burning encompasses a multitude of definitions with neuropathy. I've had secluded areas of burning, as in sun-burn feeling. I wore specific clothing to avoid contact. It hit my knees and around, thighs, tops of feet. I'd use ice or topicals to help settle. Also, burning pain as in tightness of the skin or ripping of the skin. I also associate burning and aching as a package deal which affects my legs severely. I hope this passes for him soon. Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. Best wishes to you and your family.

Hi this is relatively new to me. Mainly burning in back of thighs, just like sunburn as you say. But can it really pass? It feels like something that just gets worse and forever. It'd be nice if I'm wrong

Hi @1000usernames, welcome. Hard to say, really. Each person's case of nerve issues/damage may vary. I'm sorry you're experiencing such burning. It's annoying and not fun whatsoever.

You say this is relatively new to you, about how long have you been feeling these symptoms? Have you been diagnosed?

Hi @katec you have mentioned one of my least favorite words....burning. Burning on top of the thighs is only one of SFN's most desirable places on my body to bring that kind of pain and my least favorite. It is really sensitive if you have been sitting in the car for any length of time, or in a booth at the coffee shop and of course on an airplane. I get an MFR treatment every week to send it packing for a few days. But mostly I do it myself with stretching exercises that I invented called "Shake it out".

I do want you to be very careful if he has the torso burn. That one is like having a gas fire under your abdomen. I had to get some heavy-duty help with that one, it lasted so long and was so frightening.

May you be calm and at ease.
Chris
