Who cleans your house?

Wondering how many of you in your late 70s or 80s still clean your own home?

I am 78 and have help for a couple of hours once a month. I do things here and there in between but I can space them out. So far it works very well for me.

I am 88, live in 2 story townhouse and still cleaning.
But am thinking of getting someone to help.

You're my role model! But definitely, go for it, get some help. You deserve it!

I'm 84 and have had a sequence of housecleaners since I became single with two school age children to look after and was working full time in 1977. As you can guess, there have been a sequence of housecleaners, sometimes one, sometimes two (sisters or friends). I have never used a cleaning service. I find the housecleaners by word of mouth. It is absolutely worth it, if there are the funds to afford it. I love a clean house, but now, at this point in my life, I do not have the energy to do everything needed. My current housecleaner has been with me for six years. She is totally honorable; I don't have to be here while she cleans. She writes down her hours in a notebook, and I pay here about every three weeks. I have had others which were not satisfactory. They last a few weeks until I can find someone else. The one I have now is marvelous.

I have a housekeeper come once a month to clean also.
I make sure everything is "put away", so she concentrates on vacuum cleaning and dusting for the most part. She scrubs the kitchen floor and even dusts the top of the window frames. When I worked, I had her every two weeks, but monthly seems to work ok now that I am retired.
She even brings her own vacuum cleaner and dust rags, and bucket. Am I lucky or am I lucky?

Lucky you-where do you live?

You asked where I live...I live in Allentown, PA. My daughter tried to get help near Ft Lauderdale, Florida. She tried it one time. They charged (two of them) $225 about 4 years ago, but did NOT do a good job. She had a physical disability, really needed help, but couldn't find good people. It varies so much from place to place. Best way is to ask around.
Sometimes it is "the luck of the draw".

I live near Ft. Lauderdale- Delray Beach and the prices are absurd since there are so many people that have moved down here. As my mother use to say- their job is done with a "lick and a promise"! Thank you for the info.

I'm trying to get home cleaning organized.
I find that when I do a manageable unit of cleaning (fifteen-twenty minutes) and see a good result like a polished sink or clean floor, it is rewarding and even enjoyable.
I'm hoping my wife and I can make a two week check list.
This will take some negotiating, but at least I can claim my tasks.

I'm so sorry for your great loss. I too lost a daughter. The loss is GREAT. Be kind to yourself.
