Hey There! Similar story here. Got sibo last March, methane based. Developed a rash on my groin on the first round of xifaxan + neomycin. I actually asked my doc if this could be the start of candida overgrowth. His reply: “You don’t want to go down that road.”
Well I did. About 3 weeks after the 3rd and final round sibo gone, but developed oral thrush and a male genital yeast infection on the same day. Quickly spread everywhere, rashes, etc. Took Flucozonole, 200 mg for about 4 weeks. As luck, or bad luck, would have it my symptoms totally disappeared on the last day of the script. The problem was, you can’t stop taking flucozonole until 1) all your symptoms dissapear, and then at least two weeks longer. Felt great for 3 weeks, then every candida symptom came rushing back x 10. Getting flucozone required seeing different specialists for each infection. I was told over and over again, systemic candidiasis is impossible, I’d be in the hospital on my death bed. One problem with that, they were just plain wrong. You absolutely can have disseminated candidiasis and not have candidamia (sp) which is basically fungal sepsis. Flucozonale can act as sort of a prophylactic, keeping the candida from entering the blood stream, but still wreaking havoc on your body. The worst part is that once you take it, candida cultures will almost always come up negative. It’s a huge huge hole in treatment for sibo, that is constantly being missed. I wound up seeing an oncologist, as they see systemic candida all the time, and he is managing my treatment for it. He said, specialists almost always get it wrong, there can be shades of candida overgrowth, and walking candidiasis is absolutely what I had, and absolutely induced by antibiotics. I’m at the stage now where I’m kind of stuck, good days and bad days at 300mg a day. My advice to you is to be aggresive. There are stronger doses (up to 400mg a day) and stronger anti fungals. The evidence and research is established and there for anyone to read. Legitimate peer reviewed research. You have to keep pushing. Doctors are NOT gods. Thanks to the internet, we have access to the same information they do. I can assure you, most doctors don’t keep up with new studies. So their knowledge is frozen in the year they finished their internship. The only thing they can legitimately come up with to deny more aggresive treatment is liver health. If your cbc cmp show normal liver function, there is no reason they shouldn’t prescribe you more effective antifungals!
Thanks so much for this! I took a round of 100 mg fluconazole, then 1- 150 mg. Next after reading to get it out of your esophagus you should take either 200 mg or 400 mg for 14 to 21 days.tin My Dr only gave me 14 days worth. A week later it came back so strong and I have their skin tag all over my body. I had no energy at all. I feel better now, but it is still in my throat and I was thinking I should get some Nystantin you rinse your mouth out and gargle it down you throat. I made me sick with stomach aches. Maybe I should look for an oncologist.
