Ways to minimize weight gain
Most everyone in this support group can relate to this topic. I have previously made replies about this topic on some discussions but thought I would start a new discussion for the members new to this support group.
I am not a dietician, am just using common sense, experience and what seems logical.
The only time I use a dinner plate is when I am filling half of it with a tossed salad. Using a smaller plate, smaller bowl forces you to eat smaller portions.
Reading product labels gives valuable nutrition information including serving size. Serving size is important especially if you're eating something that maybe you shouldn't be eating. I try and pay attention to serving size.
When you're eating, take smaller bites and eat a little slower.
It won't seem like you're starving yourself.
I get weighed every morning. It helps me judge how much and what I'm eating is affecting my weight. For me, this is especially true about bread and potatoes - I will gain a little.
Don't focus on what you can't eat. Instead, focus on what you CAN eat and ways to make meals appetizing.

Get plenty of exercise if you're able. I walk about 75 minutes a day or else mix walking and jogging. I also lift weights every other day.
Prednisone makes it really hard for me to judge how much to eat, so I base serving sizes on my memory of what I ate before PMR and GCA, and scale down from there based on my activity level.
I don't eat out much at restaurants. Restaurant meals are almost always many more calories than I would eat at home.
